The BBC at YTA – February 2016

Mike Barrett Photography - BBC at YTABy Mike Barrett – 8th February 2016 – www.mikebarrettphotography.com

This morning I went to do a photo shoot focusing on the BBC, who were filming a documentary at YTA Training & Assessment Ltd in Bradford. www.ytatraining.com

YTA specialise in quality construction training programmes, such as: tiling, plumbing, plastering, bricklaying, joinery and carpentry. They are an approved training provider and have accreditation to offer nationally recognised qualifications, on behalf of CITB (Construction Industry Training Board). The BBC were there to focus on specific aspects of training and retraining. They were looking to capture footage of certain individuals participating in some of the courses on offer.

YTA is a Bradford based company who offer quality training to those who are starting out in a chosen profession and for those who need to retrain due to changing circumstances.

The BBC and all the staff at YTA were a pleasure to work with.

Here are some images from the shoot.

The Telegragh & Argus – September 2015

Why trade skills gap could mean some traditional crafts end up relics of the past.

Many employers are concerned that if the issue isn’t tackled soon, there could be a major skills shortage. A cooper made national headlines recently when he revealed he couldn’t find anyone to carry on his profession after he retired.

“A large percentage of the construction industry is aged between 50 and 60. In the next 10 years we will lose such a great percentage of workers as they come to retire, but not the same amount are going in to off-set the amount retiring,”

Professional Cricketers Association – April 2015

Tim Bresnan, The Yorkshire and England all-rounder, has proved his versatility by training as a plasterer and plumber.

Bresnan, along with his Yorkshire team-mates Richard Pyrah and Andrew Hodd, spent part of the winter on a weekly course at the YTA centre in Bradford.

The sessions were arranged by Bresnan’s former Yorkshire team-mate Matthew Wood, who now works as one of the Professional Cricketers’ Association’s six-strong team of Personal Development and Welfare Managers, and taught the County Championship-winning trio new and valuable skills.

“It was quite intensive, nine to four with an hour for lunch, but very useful,” Bresnan said.

“We all had a bit of a bash at plastering and plumbing. With plastering, once you have got the basic principles it’s a case of practice and practice. Once I had the techniques I could practice anywhere really. The finer points of the trade craft of plastering are quite difficult.

“Once I knew the simple techniques of plastering I went on to plumbing. There is quite a lot of theory and technical stuff in plumbing but I managed to get my equivalent of a Level One qualification’’
