-
Career change
-
Self-employment goals
-
DIY confidence
-
Property renovation
-
Rental property maintenance
-
Adding another trade skill
-
Exploring a trade before further training

Which Trades Does YTA Training Offer?
YTA Training offers practical trade courses in:
We also offer NVQ Level 2 assessment routes in selected trades for experienced workers.
You can explore all course areas on the YTA Courses page.
Do Students Share Workspace?
Students are given their own work area or training bay wherever possible.
Our training centre has been designed for practical workshop learning, allowing students to work at their own pace while developing hands-on skills.
Students also use tools and equipment provided by YTA Training during the course.
Class sizes are kept deliberately small to support practical learning and instructor support.
How Many Students Are On Each Course?
YTA Training keeps class sizes small.
Most courses have a maximum of 6 students per course, while plumbing courses may have up to 9 students.
Small class sizes help students receive more individual support, ask questions and spend more time developing practical skills.
Do I Need To Bring Tools Or Equipment?
No.
YTA Training provides the tools and equipment needed during your course.
There are no hidden tool hire charges for attending the course. The course price shown is the price for the course.
Students are welcome to bring their own tools if they already have them, but this is not required. We do point students to our trade tool online shop for tool purchases after the course.

Safety footwear is required. Safety toe cap boots or shoes are recommended.
YTA Training provides relevant PPE where required, such as:

Yes.

Will I Get A Qualification?
It depends which course you book.
YTA Training offers both practical non-accredited courses and accredited qualification routes.
Some students attend for practical skills only. Others choose a 10 day Level 1 course because they want more training time and the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification.
YTA currently offers selected qualifications through recognised awarding bodies including NOCN Cskills and Ascentis.
Which Awarding Bodies Does YTA Work With?
YTA Training offers selected qualifications through NOCN Cskills and Ascentis.
Our Level 1 qualifications in tiling, plastering and carpentry and joinery are accredited through NOCN Cskills.
Our NVQ Level 2 assessments in tiling, plastering, bricklaying and carpentry and joinery are also accredited through NOCN Cskills.
Our Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations is accredited through Ascentis.
NOCN Cskills is also known by many people through the historic Cskills / CITB Cskills name, which is why we refer to it as NOCN Cskills, Construction Skills, formerly CITB Cskills.
Are YTA Qualifications City & Guilds?
YTA qualifications are not City & Guilds qualifications.
City & Guilds is one awarding organisation, but it is not the only awarding organisation.
NOCN Cskills and Ascentis are awarding bodies too, just like City & Guilds is an awarding body.
Awarding bodies provide qualifications across many different sectors, including construction, health and beauty, motor mechanics, education, care, hospitality, business and many other areas.
The important things to check are:
-
The qualification title
-
The qualification level
-
The awarding body
-
Whether the qualification suits your goals
-
Whether the training centre is approved to deliver or assess the qualification
At YTA Training, we are proud to offer qualifications through NOCN Cskills and Ascentis.
What Is The Difference Between A 5 Day Course And A 10 Day Level 1 Course?
The 5 day practical courses are ideal for students who want to learn useful hands-on skills quickly.
The 10 day Level 1 courses are usually better for students who want:
-
More practical training time
-
A more structured route
-
A recognised qualification
-
More opportunity to practise
-
Greater confidence before moving forward
-
A stronger foundation in the trade
As a simple guide:
| Goal | Suggested Route |
|---|---|
| Learn useful DIY or maintenance skills | 5 day practical course |
| Try a trade before further training | 5 day practical course |
| Build stronger confidence | 10 day course |
| Gain a recognised qualification | 10 day Level 1 course |
| Explore a trade as a career change | 10 day Level 1 course |
| Demonstrate commitment to a trade | 10 day Level 1 course |
Both routes are practical and workshop-based. The difference is the amount of training time and whether the qualification route is included.
Do You Offer NVQ Level 2 Assessments?
Yes.
YTA Training offers NVQ Level 2 assessment routes in selected trades for experienced workers.
NVQ Level 2 assessments are not beginner courses. They are designed for people who already have trade experience and want to prove occupational competence.
YTA offers NVQ Level 2 assessment routes in:
-
Wall and floor tiling
-
Plastering
-
Site Carpentry
- Bricklaying
If you are a complete beginner, a practical course or Level 1 route is normally the more suitable starting point.
What Is OSAT?
OSAT stands for On Site Assessment and Training.
This route is normally suitable for experienced workers who are already working in the trade and can be assessed through evidence gathered from real work.
What Is EWPA?
EWPA stands for Experienced Worker Practical Assessment.
This route is normally suitable for experienced workers who can demonstrate their competence through an assessment process.
YTA Training can advise whether OSAT or EWPA may be suitable depending on your trade, experience and circumstances.
Can I Really Take Up A Trade As A Career?
Many students attend YTA because they are considering a career change, self-employment or a more practical future.
A course can provide a strong starting point, but becoming confident in any trade also takes further practice, experience and commitment.
YTA Training can help you build practical foundations in trades such as plumbing, plastering, tiling, carpentry and joinery, kitchen fitting and multi-skill property work.
Learning a trade can help you:
-
Build practical confidence
-
Develop useful hands-on skills
-
Explore self-employment
-
Support property renovation work
-
Add services to an existing trade business
-
Move towards a more practical career path
For serious career changers, our 10 day Level 1 course options are often the strongest starting point.
Do YTA Courses Include Course Notes?
Yes.
Many of our practical courses are supported by notes and information that students can refer back to after training.
Our courses are mainly hands-on, but written support can help students remember key points after they leave the training centre.
Do You Help After The Course?
YTA Training aims to support students with practical advice where possible.
Students can contact the centre after training if they have questions linked to the course they attended.
Many students also use their course as the first step before further practice, further training, employment, self-employment or property maintenance work.
Does YTA Have Independent Reviews?
Yes.
YTA Training has hundreds of independent 5 star reviews from students who have attended our practical trade courses.
We encourage all prospective students to read our independent reviews before booking, so they can see feedback from previous learners about the training, instructors, workshops and course experience.
