What do tutor, assessor and IQA mean?
A tutor teaches and guides students through their practical training. An assessor reviews a learner’s work against the relevant requirements when assessment is part of the course. An IQA (internal quality assurer) checks that assessment practices and decisions are consistent. The exact training and assessment involved depends on the course you choose.

Experience across the trades
Each of our tutors brings many years of practical experience in their own trade, alongside relevant trade qualifications and qualifications in teaching and assessment. They draw on that experience to help students understand how the skills they practise in the training centre apply to real projects.
Our tutors also have in-depth knowledge of the other trades taught at YTA. That matters because a project rarely involves just one trade. A bathroom or kitchen renovation, for example, may involve plumbing, carpentry or joinery, plastering and tiling, with the work of one trade affecting what comes next. Throughout your training, our team can offer advice and guidance on these connections and help you understand how the trades work together.
