YTA Training offers a range of practical construction courses, Level 1 qualifications and NVQ Level 2 assessments for students and experienced workers.
Our training centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire delivers hands-on trade training across plumbing, plastering, tiling, carpentry and joinery, kitchen fitting and multi-skill courses.
YTA Training is proud to offer accredited qualifications through recognised awarding bodies, helping students gain practical skills, confidence and, where appropriate, nationally recognised qualifications.
Accredited Construction Training At YTA
YTA Training offers practical trade courses for complete beginners, career changers, landlords, property developers, DIY learners, existing tradespeople and experienced workers.
Depending on your goals, you may choose:
-
A short practical non-accredited course
-
A 5 day hands-on trade course
-
A 10 day Level 1 accredited course
-
A multi-skill training route
-
An NVQ Level 2 assessment route if you already have trade experience
Not every student needs a qualification. Some learners attend YTA to improve DIY confidence, renovate property, maintain rental houses or add practical skills to an existing trade business.
Other students want a recognised qualification because they are serious about career change, further training, self-employment or demonstrating commitment to a trade.
Our Awarding Bodies
YTA Training currently offers qualifications through recognised awarding bodies including NOCN Cskills and Ascentis.
NOCN Cskills
Our Level 1 qualifications in carpentry and joinery, tiling and plastering are accredited through NOCN Cskills.
Our NVQ Level 2 assessments in tiling, plastering, bricklaying and carpentry are also accredited through NOCN Cskills.
NOCN Cskills is connected with construction qualifications and is known by many people in the industry. Some learners may also recognise the historic Cskills / CITB Cskills name, which is why we refer to NOCN Cskills as Construction Skills, formerly CITB Cskills.
Ascentis
Our Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations is accredited through Ascentis.
Ascentis is an awarding organisation offering recognised qualifications across different subject areas, including construction.
Is It City & Guilds Accredited?
Some students ask whether YTA qualifications are City & Guilds accredited.
City & Guilds is one awarding organisation, but it is not the only awarding organisation.
NOCN Cskills and Ascentis are awarding bodies too, just like City & Guilds is an awarding body. Awarding organisations provide qualifications across many different sectors, including construction, health and beauty, motor mechanics, education, business, care, hospitality and many other areas.
The important point is not simply the name of the awarding body.
The important things to check are:
-
The qualification title
-
The qualification level
-
The awarding body
-
Whether the qualification suits your goals
-
Whether the course gives you the practical skills you need
-
Whether the training provider is approved to deliver or assess the qualification
For example, a Level 1 qualification remains a Level 1 qualification. A Level 2 NVQ remains a Level 2 NVQ. The awarding body name may differ, but the qualification level and purpose are what matter most.
At YTA Training, we are proud to offer qualifications through NOCN Cskills and Ascentis.
Why Accreditation Matters
Being able to offer accredited qualifications is not something a training centre can simply decide to do overnight.
Approved centres must meet awarding body requirements and undergo checks to make sure the training, assessment, facilities, staff and quality systems are suitable.
This can include scrutiny of:
-
Training premises
-
Workshop areas
-
Tools and equipment
-
Course delivery
-
Assessment processes
-
Internal quality systems
-
Tutor and assessor competence
-
Learner support
-
Record keeping
-
Qualification standards
YTA Training is proud to meet the requirements needed to offer recognised qualifications and NVQ assessment routes.
This helps set YTA apart from centres that only offer informal training with no recognised qualification options.
Practical Training Comes First
At YTA Training, qualifications matter, but practical training still comes first.
The same high standard of hands-on teaching is delivered by our experienced and qualified trainers whether you attend a 5 day practical course or a 10 day Level 1 course.
Our courses are designed to help students build confidence through real workshop practice, not just classroom theory.
Students benefit from:
-
Practical hands-on training
-
Small class sizes
-
Experienced trainers and assessors
-
Dedicated workshop areas
-
Beginner-friendly teaching
-
Adult private training environment
-
Real tools, materials and trade techniques
-
The option to choose accredited routes where suitable
A qualification can be valuable, but it should sit alongside genuine practical ability and confidence.
Non-Accredited Practical Courses
Not every learner needs an accredited qualification.
A non-accredited practical course may be suitable if your goal is to:
-
Improve DIY skills
-
Renovate your own property
-
Maintain rental properties
-
Learn practical trade techniques
-
Add confidence before further training
-
Try a trade before committing to a longer course
-
Add useful skills to property maintenance work
For many domestic jobs, customers are often more concerned with reliability, workmanship, communication and results than with formal qualifications.
However, some students still prefer to gain a qualification because it can help demonstrate training, commitment and progression.
Level 1 Accredited Courses
YTA Training offers Level 1 qualification routes for students who want practical training with recognised accreditation.
A Level 1 course may be suitable if you want:
-
More structured training
-
A recognised qualification
-
Evidence of learning
-
A stronger foundation in the trade
-
More practical workshop time
-
A route towards further development
-
A qualification to show customers or employers
- Many insurance companies now require a level 1 qualification to undertake work in a commercial setting such as a business address, office, school etc.
Our 10 day Level 1 routes are often the strongest option for students who are serious about learning a trade, changing career or building towards self-employment.

5 Day Courses vs 10 Day Level 1 Courses
YTA Training offers both 5 day practical courses and 10 day Level 1 course options in selected trades.
The 5 day courses are ideal for students who want to build practical skills quickly.
The 10 day Level 1 courses are usually better for students who want:
-
More training time
-
More practice
-
A stronger foundation
-
A recognised qualification
-
A more structured route
-
Greater confidence before moving forward
As a simple guide:
| Goal | Suggested Route |
|---|---|
| Learn useful DIY or maintenance skills | 5 day practical course |
| Try a trade before further training | 5 day practical course |
| Build stronger practical confidence | 10 day course |
| Gain a recognised qualification | 10 day Level 1 course |
| Explore a trade as a career change | 10 day Level 1 course |
| Demonstrate commitment to a trade | 10 day Level 1 course |
Both routes are practical and workshop-based. The difference is the amount of training time and whether the qualification route is included.
NVQ Level 2 Assessments
YTA Training also offers NVQ Level 2 assessment routes in selected trades.
NVQ Level 2 assessments are different from beginner training courses.
They are designed for experienced workers who already have trade experience and want to gain a recognised qualification through assessment.
YTA Training offers NVQ Level 2 assessment routes in:
-
Wall and floor tiling
-
Plastering
-
Carpentry and joinery
- Bricklaying
NVQ Level 2 may be suitable for experienced workers who need to prove occupational competence and progress within the construction industry.
OSAT And EWPA Routes
There are different ways to achieve an NVQ Level 2 depending on your experience and circumstances.
OSAT
OSAT stands for On Site Assessment and Training.
This route is normally suitable for experienced workers who are already working in the trade and can be assessed through evidence gathered from real work.
EWPA
EWPA stands for Experienced Worker Practical Assessment.
This route is normally suitable for experienced workers who can demonstrate their competence through an assessment process.
YTA Training can advise which route may be most suitable based on your experience, trade and circumstances.
Which Qualification Route Is Right For You?
The right route depends on your current experience and your future goals.
| Learner Type | Possible Route |
|---|---|
| Complete beginner | 5 day practical course or 10 day Level 1 course |
| DIY learner | Short course or 5 day practical course |
| Career changer | 10 day Level 1 course |

Frequently Asked Questions About Courses, Qualifications And NVQs
Are YTA courses accredited?
YTA offers both non-accredited practical courses and accredited qualification routes. Level 1 qualification routes are available in selected trades, and NVQ Level 2 assessments are available for experienced workers in selected trades.
Which awarding bodies does YTA work with?
YTA Training offers selected qualifications through NOCN Cskills and Ascentis. Carpentry, tiling, plastering and selected NVQ routes are accredited through NOCN Cskills. The Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations is accredited through Ascentis.
Are YTA qualifications City & Guilds?
YTA qualifications are not City & Guilds qualifications. City & Guilds is one awarding body, but it is not the only awarding body. NOCN Cskills and Ascentis are awarding bodies too. What matters is the qualification title, level, awarding body and whether the qualification suits your goals.
Is NOCN Cskills the same as CITB Cskills?
NOCN Cskills is connected with construction qualifications and many people in the industry still recognise the Cskills / CITB Cskills name. YTA uses the wording NOCN Cskills, Construction Skills, formerly CITB Cskills, because many learners are familiar with the older terminology.
Do I need a qualification to work domestically?
For many domestic trade tasks, formal qualifications may not be legally required unless you are working in regulated areas such as gas or electrical work. However, qualifications can help demonstrate training, commitment and progression.
Is a 10 day Level 1 course better than a 5 day course?
It depends on your goals. A 5 day course may be suitable for practical skills, DIY or property maintenance. A 10 day Level 1 course gives more training time and the opportunity to gain a recognised qualification, which may be better for serious learners and career changers.
What is an NVQ Level 2?
An NVQ Level 2 is a work-based qualification used to demonstrate occupational competence in a trade. It is normally suitable for experienced workers rather than complete beginners.
Can beginners take an NVQ Level 2?
