Our Level 1 tiling courses could set you well on the way to an exciting professional future
Learning a trade remains as popular a path as ever for people around the UK, and there are good reasons for that. Tiling, after all, is unlikely to ever go out of fashion, with all manner of floors and walls up and down the UK needing to be tiled to the utmost level of professionalism Furthermore, once one is experienced in this field, it is possible to earn as much as £38,000 a year.
These factors, in turn, help to explain why tiling intensive courses like our very own here at YTA continue to be sought-after.
Indeed, for a wide range of people who are interested in a tiling career – including not only complete beginners, but also existing tradespeople who wish to extend their skill-set to tiling – there are few more attractive initial training options than our five-day and 10-day Level 1 courses.
Within just a few days, you’ll have covered considerable ground
You don’t need to possess any prior tiling experience at all if you wish to take on one of these NOCN Cskills Level 1 tiling intensive courses. That’s because we really do start from scratch – although if you have some existing tiling skills, we can always tailor the course to suit your requirements.
Even if you take on ‘just’ our five-day course, we’ll aim to ensure you leave us with sufficient information and confidence to get your new tiling career successfully underway. Indeed, according to our most recent effectiveness poll, 23 out of 30 students have set up and are now enjoying self-employed tiling careers.
The course is structured as if it was a typical tiler’s working week. This means that if you complete the first five days, you will amass considerable experience and knowhow in the process, including in relation to health and safety, surface preparation, tiling techniques, the use of all tiling tools, all aspects of cutting and drilling tiles, silicone sealing and removal, and much more.
If, though, you join us for the full 10-day course, the additional five days will give you many further specialised tasks to work through. These will include, on the Monday, tiling a kitchen with a diamond splashback going up to the funnel, followed by a Tuesday spent tiling around a window inside and out, and a Wednesday and Thursday spent concentrating on wet rooms, tanking, plunge cutting and naturals. The Friday will conclude the course with the installation of bathroom underfloor heating before tiling on it; certificates will also be presented on this day.

Join us for five or 10 days to start your professional carpentry journey
You’ll doubtless be hearing a lot of things at this time of year about new beginnings, including the things you ‘should’ do – getting fit, travelling more and so on. Well, here at YTA, we really don’t think you can make any better New Year resolution than one that could get you started on a whole new rewarding career.
Yep, we’re referring to our certificate in carpentry & joinery courses that last for five days or 10 days, depending on what might suit your preferences and needs.
But what makes one of these courses such an excellent platform for success if you aspire to be a carpenter or joiner for a living in 2020?
These are courses that you can trust
And when we say ‘trust’, we’re not asking you to simply take our word for it! That’s because these are NOCN Construction Skills (Cskills) courses, so you can be assured of the reputability of this training path by the name alone.
You don’t need to have any previous carpentry experience in order to embark on our five-day or 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 certificate in carpentry & joinery courses.
The five-day course is a unit of accreditation that will show potential employers or customers you are competent in this trade, while the 10-day course culminates in a full qualification – the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery.
So, what can you expect to learn?
While these courses naturally differ in terms of the number of units you will be trained and assessed in, undertaking either route will enable you to get to grips with a broad variety of aspects of carpentry.
From building a stud partition wall with a doorway and hanging a door including the fitting of locks, right through to learning about fixing mouldings and the various tools pertinent to carpentry and joinery, these courses cover the extensive territory that will enable you to start your career in this trade with the utmost confidence.
Why not, then, click through to our full online pages in relation to the five-day or 10-day carpentry course, before getting in touch directly with the YTA team to ask any questions you may have and to make your booking?
We have opportunities open to secure your place on either of these certificate in carpentry & joinery courses for January, February or well into the spring – so you really do have no excuses for not making those big steps to realise your ambitions in this enjoyable trade in the months ahead.

What does our EWPA route to a bricklaying NVQ involve?
Seasoned practitioners of a particular trade – such as carpenters, plasterers or tilers – who nonetheless lack such qualifications as an NVQ Level 2 are often understandably unenthusiastic about the idea of embarking on a course that would simply teach them skills they already possess.
Thankfully, there is an alternative route for those in such a situation – the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA), as we are happy to be able to offer at our Cskills-approved NVQ centre in Yorkshire here at YTA.
It isn’t just the aforementioned trades that are catered for by the EWPA route, however, as bricklayers with at least five years’ experience also have an opportunity to obtain a Diploma in Bricklaying on the same basis, courtesy of our bricklaying NVQ Level 2 courses.
You’ll need just one or two days to seriously upgrade your qualifications
Spending a mere one or two days at our training centre, all that you have to do to obtain this invaluable bricklaying qualification via the EWPA route is use the skills you have acquired over the years to complete a task that will then be assessed.
The NVQ assessor will evaluate your skills using a combination of professional discussion, witness statements and the practical assessment.
The witness testimonies, for instance, will be pre-printed in the NVQ pack and sent to you a few weeks prior to your assessment date at our NVQ centre; you’ll simply need to have them signed by a trade-related co-worker who has seen you complete this work in the last three years.
You will receive the drawing plan for the practical assessment in advance, too, with the assessment task needing to be completed at YTA, both to spec and within the allocated time.
On the same day as the practical assessment, meanwhile, will be the professional discussion, which will entail you talking through jobs or projects you have completed, with the assessor possibly asking you to elaborate on certain areas. This will help to ensure you provide enough information as talking evidence to maximise your chances of securing the Level 2 NVQ.
It’s worth noting that direct questioning will also be included in the assessment process, involving you being asked to ‘state’ or ‘describe’.
Make us your go-to centre for bricklaying NVQ Level 2 courses
With the particular bricklaying qualification that you can obtain via the EWPA route at YTA – the Cskills Awards Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Trowel Occupations (Construction) QUA813 – being the one you’ll need to gain the blue skilled worker CSCS card as a bricklayer on site, your day or two at our training centre could prove extremely well-used time for your career.
Call 01274 682199 today to enquire about place availability with our team, and to make that crucial step to booking so that you can soon be back on site, earning a wage and in the process, taking your life as a professional bricklayer to the next level.
Within just 10 days, you could go from novice to capable plumber
Plumbing has long been a popular, rewarding and potentially lucrative career path for hands-on, practical people who enjoy working with their hands – but if you are such a person and don’t yet have any actual plumbing experience, what’s the best starting point?
Turning to one of the UK’s most trusted plumbing training centres is one good piece of advice – as is, in particular, considering our 10-Day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course.
Why might this be the right intensive course for you?
This 10-day plumbing course effectively consists of our five-day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course in the first week, and our five-day Advanced Plumbing Course during the second week, meaning that you really can become a confident plumber in just two weeks.
You might join this course as someone with no related experience at all, or you may be an existing tradesperson such as a tiler, plasterer, joiner or kitchen fitter, with an interest in boosting your skills to include plumbing tasks like plumbing in a kitchen sink or changing taps.
Whatever your priorities in terms of what you wish to do after completing this course, our 10-Day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course could represent the perfect lifting-off point for you, enabling you to confidently take on plumbing jobs around the home or begin in business as a professional plumber.
Remember that the more comprehensive a job you can do for a customer, the likelier you may well be to win such work in the first place, as they won’t need to place their trust in anyone else to provide them with a wealth of services. So, you might be very thankful for your decision to take on the full 10-day course!
What will you be trained and assessed in?
There are two units that you will be trained and assessed in when you embark on this course; an introduction to construction work and carrying out plumbing operations. Achieving both of these units will entitle you to a full qualification, the Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations.
With this qualification being accredited by the Ofqual and Quality Assurance Agency-recognised Ascentis Awarding Organisation, you can have confidence that the course will provide you with a strong foundation for a subsequent life and career as a plumber.
This is assured further by the considerable territory that the course covers, including such tasks as working with copper pipe and fixings, the planning and installation of a bathroom, the installation of a domestic hot water system, the fitting of a shower pump and thermostatic mixer shower, and so much more.
Contact the YTA team today, and we can give you further guidance and advice in relation to our 10-Day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course, as well as – if you are ready – accept your booking.

Could an NVQ Level 2 carpentry diploma be yours through the EWPA route?
We may be home to a wide range of carpentry and joinery courses here at YTA – encompassing both five-day and 10-day options – but you don’t necessarily need to undertake any of these to significantly upgrade your qualifications.
That’s because, if you have already been a carpenter for five or more years, you could obtain a Cskills Awards NVQ Level 2 Carpentry Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) within the space of a day, when you pursue our fast-track assessment route. In addition to completing these units, you will be able to further support your bid for the NVQ Level 2 qualification by undertaking three optional units. With such subjects as the installation of first fixing components, the installation of second fixing components and the maintenance of non-structural carpentry work featuring in these units, they could be integral to your efforts to pass the EWPA route with YTA.
Complete all of the above to satisfaction, and you will be told at the end of the day that you have achieved the certificate, which will then be sent to you within 14 days, or perhaps even seven days. This, in turn, will enable you to apply for blue skilled worker CSCS card, so that you can get on site.
