Build Your Plastering Confidence in Two Practical Days

Want to tackle a plastering project at home, add skimming to your existing skills or pick up a trowel again after time away? Give yourself two days to practise, ask questions and work on your technique with an instructor there to guide you.

YTA’s 2 Day Plastering Course is a focused, practical skimming course at our training centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire. You will work in your own full-height training bay, preparing surfaces, mixing plaster and practising application and finishing.

Choose walls, ceilings or a mixture of both. Use the time to work on the skills that matter to your next project and build a better understanding of how plaster behaves as you work.

What You Will Practise

Surface Preparation

Learn about preparing the background before skimming. You will work over plasterboard or existing plastered surfaces and develop an understanding of the preparation involved.

Mixing and Applying Plaster

Get practical experience mixing plaster, handling the tools and applying the material. Work on your technique with guidance as you practise.

Skimming Walls

Practise working towards a smoother wall finish in your own bay. Spending time doing the work yourself helps you recognise where your technique needs attention and ask questions while the work is in front of you.

Skimming Ceilings

If ceiling plastering is your priority, you can focus on overhead work. You can also practise both walls and ceilings during the two days. Discuss your preferred focus with the instructor.

Your Own Bay, Time to Practise and Practical Guidance

You will have your own full-height plastering bay throughout the course. You do not share it with another student, so you can follow your own work through preparation, application and finishing.

YTA has provided practical construction training since 2006. Our small-group workshop setting gives you the opportunity to ask questions and receive guidance as you develop your skills.

Tools are provided for use during training. You can concentrate on getting familiar with the equipment and working with the plaster.

Choose this two-day course for focused skimming practice. The training covers preparation, mixing and skimming over board or existing plaster. Fixing plasterboard and business start-up training are outside this course’s scope.

If you want broader preparation skills, repair work or a longer route towards offering plastering services, explore the following options.

Two Days That Fit Your Schedule

The course is available most weeks over two consecutive weekdays, subject to availability. Teaching runs from 9am to 4pm; the centre is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.

Two-Day Plastering Course Questions

Can I focus on walls or ceilings?

Yes. You can focus on walls, ceilings or practise both. Let your instructor know what you would like to concentrate on.

Will I be fixing plasterboard?

This course focuses on skimming over plasterboard or existing plastered surfaces. For plasterboard fixing and a wider range of preparation and repair techniques, choose the 5 Day Intensive Plastering Course.

Do I need my own plastering tools?

No. Plastering tools are supplied for use during the course.

Will I receive a certificate?

The course is Non-accredited with certificate of attendance. For assessed Level 1 unit accreditation, see the full ten-day Level 1 route.

Is this enough to start a plastering business?

This is a short course for developing skimming technique. If your aim is to offer a wider plastering service, speak to YTA about the five-day and ten-day routes. Building experience after training and choosing work that matches your ability are part of developing your skills.
