The 1 Day Tiling Taster Course is designed for complete beginners who want to experience practical wall tiling before committing to a longer training course or starting a project at home.

You will spend the day working with professional tiling tools, materials, adhesives and tiles in YTA’s dedicated tiling training area. Rather than trying to learn from online videos or practising alone on your own walls, you can receive practical instruction and discover how tiling should be approached from the beginning.

You may want to tile a kitchen or bathroom at home, improve a property, add tiling to your existing skills or find out whether tiling could become a future career.

One practical day can help you stop wondering whether tiling is for you and start finding out for yourself.

Tiling can look straightforward when somebody experienced is doing it. The reality involves careful preparation, accurate setting out, using the correct adhesive, controlling your tools and making clean cuts.

What Will You Do During the Tiling Taster Day?

The day can be adjusted around your experience and the skills you most want to explore. A complete beginner will be introduced to the basic process of preparing, setting out and tiling a small wall or kitchen-style training area.

Your practical training may include:

Understanding the basic stages of a wall-tiling project
An introduction to tiling tools and equipment
Preparing the training surface
Understanding why accurate setting out is important
Planning tile positions to avoid poor cuts and unbalanced layouts
Mixing or preparing suitable tile adhesive
Using an appropriate notched tiling trowel
Applying adhesive correctly
Positioning and spacing wall tiles

What Can You Realistically Learn in One Day?

A one-day taster can introduce you to important wall-tiling principles and give you genuine hands-on experience. It can help you understand tools, setting out, adhesive application, tile positioning and basic cutting.

However, one day cannot provide the wider range of skills, repetition and problem-solving experience needed to begin working as a tiler.

A professional tiler must be able to work with different surfaces, tile types, rooms, obstacles, adhesives and layouts. They must also develop accuracy, speed, finishing skills and the ability to correct problems when walls and floors are not perfectly straight.

If your aim is DIY or exploring whether you enjoy tiling, the taster course is an excellent place to begin.

If your aim is paid work, self-employment or a serious career change, consider progressing to the 5 Day Intensive Tiling Course, 10 Day Intensive Tiling Course or 10 Day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Tiling Course.
