Thinking About Plumbing? Start by Trying It for Yourself
Perhaps you have been thinking about learning a trade but want to know whether you would enjoy the work. Perhaps you would like to understand the pipework around your home and feel more confident picking up the tools. You do not need to have your next move worked out before taking the first step.
YTA Training’s 1 Day Plumbing Taster Course gives you a practical introduction to plumbing at our training centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire. Spend a day working with pipes, fittings and tools, with an instructor there to explain the techniques and help you practise.
There is real satisfaction in making a connection, checking your work and understanding how it fits together. This is your opportunity to experience that for yourself and decide where you would like to go next.

Who Is This Beginner Plumbing Course For?
You do not need previous plumbing experience. This course is a starting point for:
- Complete beginners who want to try plumbing with guidance.
- People considering a career change who would like to experience practical plumbing before choosing a longer course.
- Homeowners and DIY enthusiasts who want a better understanding of basic pipework and connections.
- People who enjoy practical work and want to explore a new skill.
If you are unsure whether you will take to it, that is a good reason to try a taster day. Bring your questions and a willingness to have a go.
What Will You Learn on the 1 Day Plumbing Taster Course?
The day introduces core pipefitting techniques through a small practical project. The standard course content includes:
- Compression fittings: practise making mechanical pipe connections.
- Soldered joints: learn how to make end-feed connections.
- Pipe bending: try shaping pipe for a plumbing installation.
- Copper and plastic pipe: work with materials used in domestic plumbing.
- Kitchen sink taps and waste: practise fitting these components.
- A kitchen sink project: connect the pipework and test it up to full working pressure.
Working on a project helps you understand how the individual techniques fit together. You can ask questions as you go and see the results of your work.

Have a Particular Project in Mind?
We can discuss adapting the taster day to your requirements. You might want to concentrate on pipework or explore a small project such as a radiator connection.
Please contact YTA before booking an adapted day so we can agree what is suitable within the time available. A radiator project would be an alternative agreed focus; completing both a sink and radiator installation is not the standard one-day programme.
A Useful First Step Towards Your Next Goal
Reading about a trade can only tell you so much. Trying the work gives you a better feel for the tools, the precision involved and whether you enjoy solving practical problems.
The taster gives you an introduction to the tasks you practise and a clearer basis for deciding what to learn next. It is non-accredited with certificate of attendance. For broader installation skills or a route towards a plumbing qualification, explore the longer courses below.
Want More Time to Develop Your Plumbing Skills?
You can start with a taster or book directly onto a beginner-friendly five or ten day course. Completing the one-day course is not a requirement for joining either of those routes.
5 Day Intensive Plumbing Course
Choose a full week if you want more practice and a wider introduction to domestic plumbing. This is a useful next step when you know you want to spend more time developing the skill.

10 Day Plumbing Courses
Build your training over two weeks, progressing from foundation tasks into more advanced plumbing work.
Choose the 10 Day Intensive Plumbing Course, which is non-accredited with certificate of attendance, or the 10 Day Level 1 Plumbing Course for the Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations.
