When you are planning a new trade or a business of your own, you want training that gives you something practical to build on. You want time with the tools, guidance when a technique needs improving, and a clear record of what you have achieved.

YTA’s 10 Day Level 1 Plastering Course combines practical workshop training with assessment towards NOCN Cskills Level 1 unit accreditation in Skills for Plastering. You will work in your own full-height training bay at our centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

No previous plastering experience is needed. Begin with preparation, boarding and skimming, then develop your skills through whole-room work, repairs, more challenging shapes and rendering. Alongside the training, you will work towards a formal record of your assessed Level 1 plastering skills.

Centre opening hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. Course teaching runs from 9am to 4pm.

Why Choose the Level 1 Plastering Option?

If you are investing ten days in developing your plastering skills, adding assessment gives you a way to record your achievement. We recommend this route if you are working towards self-employment, adding plastering to your services or want assessed achievement to support your next training step.

The standard ten-day practical course costs £1,500. The Level 1 route adds £400 for the assessment and accreditation option, giving a total of £1,900 including VAT for starts from October 2026.

You receive the practical programme and work towards the assessed Level 1 achievement. If a prospective employer or customer asks about your training, you can explain the skills you have studied and the accreditation you have achieved.

What Does the Assessment Cover?

The assessed work focuses on core plastering skills, including:

• Preparing and fixing plasterboard.
• Applying plaster to non-solid internal backgrounds, such as plasterboard.
• Applying plaster to solid backgrounds.

Your instructor will explain the assessment requirements during your training. Accreditation depends on demonstrating the required skills and successfully completing the assessments.

Your Own Plastering Bay Throughout the Course

You have your own full-height training bay. Work on walls, a ceiling, a window opening and different backgrounds, with room to practise the techniques as your confidence develops.

Plasterboard, blockwork and previously plastered surfaces give you a range of preparation and application tasks. You can follow your own work through the different stages of the project and use your instructor’s guidance to improve it.

Week One: Learn the Foundations

Your first week develops the core practical skills that underpin the course. You will be introduced to the tools, materials and working methods before building experience through the tasks in your bay.

• Preparation: understand different backgrounds and which plaster to use.
• Plasterboarding and beads: prepare and fix boards, use dot-and-dab methods and set beads for edges and corners.
• Wall and ceiling plastering: practise applying plaster to boards and existing surfaces, including overhead work.
• Repairs: work on bonding, skimming and feathering repairs into surrounding plaster.
• Working methods: develop your tool handling, awareness of health and safety and understanding of the order of the work.

Week Two: Develop Your Skills Across a Complete Project

The second week gives you more time to develop your approach as you bring the techniques together. You will tackle walls and ceilings as a complete project and work on more demanding plastering tasks.

Repairs, Over-Skimming and Blockwork

Build on your repair and over-skimming work, and learn the traditional bay-and-screed method of plastering onto blockwork. This develops your experience of different backgrounds and preparation methods.

Arches, Curves and More Challenging Shapes

Learn techniques for arches and curved surfaces on walls or ceilings. Both may be covered where time and progress allow, giving you experience beyond flat surfaces.

Further Practice and Instructor Feedback

Continue developing your application and finishing technique in your bay. Use the extra workshop time to ask questions, work on unfamiliar tasks and put feedback into practice.

K Rend Coloured Rendering

Your practical training also includes applying K Rend coloured render to blockwork and working towards a textured finish. This broadens your workshop experience alongside internal plastering.

You can start as a complete beginner. The first week builds your foundations before you progress into further practical work.

Your Level 1 unit accreditation gives you a record of assessed skills to build on. Continue developing experience and choose work that matches your ability as you progress.

If you later want to work towards an NVQ Level 2, speak to YTA about the experience and assessment requirements. NVQ assessment is a separate stage, with its own eligibility requirements.

Combine Level 1 Plastering with Another Trade and Get a Fifth Week Free

This ten-day course counts as two of the four paid weeks required for our current five-weeks-for-four offer. For example:

• 10 Day Level 1 Plastering Course: £1,900.
• 10 Day Carpentry and Joinery Course: £1,500.
• 5 Day Tiling Course: free under the offer, usually £750.

25 training days for £3,400 including VAT, saving £750 against the usual £4,150. This example includes Level 1 unit accreditation in plastering, subject to successful assessment. The carpentry and tiling courses are non-accredited with certificate of attendance.

How to Book and Arrange Your Free Week

1. Choose and pay in full for four eligible weeks. Use the dates at the bottom of each individual course page. Check both weeks of ten-day courses and make sure your training dates do not overlap.
2. Leave the free week out of your cart.
3. Email or call YTA when you book, or immediately after paying. Give your name, telephone number, paid booking details, chosen free course and preferred available start date.
4. YTA checks availability, manually books your free week and confirms it with you. It is not automatically reserved at checkout.

Before You Arrive

Plastering tools and equipment are supplied for use during the course. Bring steel toe-capped boots and old work clothes that you do not mind getting plaster on. A change of clothes or a suitable protective oversuit can be useful for ceiling work.

Level 1 Plastering Course Questions

Do I need to book the five-day course first?

No. This ten-day booking includes the foundation week and the further practical training. Beginners can book this course directly.

Is the £400 assessment addition included in £1,900?

Yes. The £1,900 price includes the ten-day practical training and the £400 Level 1 assessment addition. Book this Level 1 course once; you do not also need to buy the standard ten-day course.

What will my certificate say I have achieved?

On successful assessment, you receive NOCN Cskills Level 1 unit accreditation in Skills for Plastering, worth six Level 1 credits. This records your assessed unit achievement.

Can the two training weeks be separated?

Some booking options show different start dates for the first and second weeks. Check both dates before paying. If you need a particular arrangement, contact YTA to discuss availability.

Can I choose practical training without assessment?

Yes. Our 10 Day Intensive Plastering Course costs £1,500 including VAT for starts from October 2026. That option is Non-accredited with certificate of attendance.
