From novice status to a fledgling career in carpentry – it’s possible in 10 days

There are fewer longer-standing trades than joinery, and there’s also little doubting its potential long-term rewards for those who embark upon it as a career, with experienced carpenters able to command salaries of as much as £40,000. But if you’re serious about entering this varied trade yourself, what is the best first step you could take?

One course of action could be a quite literal one – our 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery Course, which allows you to achieve no less than a full qualification. Provided that you pass the course, you could scarcely hope for a stronger foundation for your future carpentry career.

Five assessments leading to a complete qualification

There are no fewer than five units in which you will be trained and assessed when you enrol on this course. These are the NOCN Cskills Level 1 units in health and safety in construction trades, communicating effectively in construction trades, constructing woodwork joints, fitting architrave and skirting, and fitting ironmongery to an internal door.

With NOCN being the awarding body for construction NVQs, this is the name that you’ll want to have on your certificate when you’re seeking to demonstrate your competence in carpentry to prospective customers or employers.

It’s also important to underline that no prior experience in carpentry and joinery is needed in order to embark on this course. Our Certificate in Carpentry & Joinery courses, then, are very much for budding carpenters who want to rapidly travel a long distance in their new career.

What are the specific things you’ll learn about on this course?

You’ll be amazed by how far you can progress your carpentry skills and knowledge with us in just 10 days! Beginning with the basics of how to use the fundamental hand tools involved in carpentry, the course will then take you through marking, cutting and chiselling, followed by the more advanced tasks that will require you to develop and demonstrate these skills.

In the space of a mere 10 days, you’ll get to grips with such carpentry processes as building a stud partition wall with a doorway, hanging a door including the fitting of locks, the fitting of skirting and mouldings, scribing joints to fit mouldings and skirting, and so much more.

With all of this available for a highly attractive price at the UK’s most renowned centre for construction training and assessment, it’s no wonder that our Certificate in Carpentry & Joinery courses quickly become fully booked up.

So, we’d urge you to act now if you’re interested in this course as a route to giving your carpentry career serious lift-off in 2021! To book or to ask any questions you may have about this course before committing, please don’t hesitate to call 01274 682199 or 07400 922788 now. Student returns 9 years later!

It was so lovely to have Denise back in YTA with her son 9 years after her first course. Denise originally attended our tiling course back in 2011 and has returned to complete a few more courses with her son’s in August and September leaving us with a lovely review on Google.

I did my first tiling course here over 9 years ago. I loved it! But I came out of the trades industry for a few years. Having recently started my new business as a tiler I wanted extra experience with what I’ll probably come across.

My son and I attended the 5 day plumbing course. Fantastic for both of us.

I have since attended a 2 day floor tiling course.

The instructors make this such a fun and relaxed atmosphere whilst maintaining safety and professionalism.

I feel the course prices are extremely reasonable and can’t wait to attend the 5 day joinery course in January 2021!

All safety measures are adhered to!

I haven’t bothered looking at anywhere else for my courses as YTA has it all!

They even sell tools at competitive prices too!

Thank you Denise for such a lovely 5 star review. It’s always great to see returning students and hear how well you’ve been doing. Looking forward to another catch up when you return for the joinery & carpentry course. Graham

New 5 Star YTA Review – Carpentry & Joinery Course

New 5 star YTA review following the completion of our 10 day Cskills level 1 certificate in carpentry & joinery.

Kieran Smolka – Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery Course

An excellent 2 weeks doing the level 1 carpentry and joinery course, the trainer was patient and very knowledgeable, he gave lots of tips and tricks to help. An easy company to deal with and I felt they are value for money. Hopefully I will be back to do my level 2 in the future.

Thank you Kieran for a great 5 star YTA review. Once you have gained a minimum of 3 years experience we can then look at you enrolling onto the NVQ level 2 in either site carpentry or bench joinery.

During the 10 day Level 1 Certificate in and joinery course and you will undertake 5 assessments to achieve a FULL nationally accredited qualification (NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery).

You will be trained and assessed on the following units:

The full qualification you will complete over the 10 days will be NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Carpentry and Joinery and this will show potential employers or customers your competence in your chosen trade. This 10 day Cskills level 1 Certificate in carpentry and joinery course is ideal if you are wanting to start a career in carpentry and eventually move on to gain your Cskills NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry. Sign up for one of our intensive plastering courses to significantly bolster your skills and knowledge

Plastering is a trade that interests all kinds of people, for all kinds of reasons. Of course, not everyone who joins us here at YTA for one of our five-day or 10-day intensive plastering courses necessarily seeks to practise plastering as a trade at all – they may simply be enthusiastic DIYers. But others are existing tradespeople wishing to extend their skills, and some are complete beginners who wish to take the first step to a career as a professional plasterer.

Sure enough, if you wish to take on one of our intensive plastering courses, whether for five or 10 days, you don’t need to have any previous experience at all. However, it would be quite wrong to think that you couldn’t possibly learn much in such a short time-span!

After all, when you choose YTA, you’ll be able to get to grips with plastering in a large training bay of your very own, not needing to share with anyone. What’s more, as we only have five of these training bays, we only take on this many students for each running of the course, so you’ll be able to look forward to a high standard of teaching thanks to a low student to teacher/trainer ratio.

But what will you actually learn on a course with us?

As for the actual content of these intensive plastering courses, it’s fair to say that you’ll be covering some serious ground with us!

Even if you go for ‘just’ the five-day course, for instance, you’ll be able to board and prepare your training bay – or ‘room’ – before plastering a ceiling for the first time. This will be followed by plastering walls, even including a window to trim up to. You’ll then be taught how to over-skim previous work, repair plastering and ‘feather in’ – this being an important technique for larger walls.

Even more awaits you, however, if you enrol on our 10-day course. This will entail the course going into a second week, with the chance to plaster the full wall and ceilings in your training bay as a complete project, instead of the two of them being treated as separate tasks. For this, the traditional method of plastering onto block work (bay and screed) will be used, instead of board fixing (dot and dab).

All of this is just some of what our training can give you

The above isn’t even everything that you’ll receive for your time and effort when you enrol on one of our intensive plastering courses, with the likes of important health and safety and business start-up information also being included. All in all, you could hardly choose a better way to equip yourself with a clear practical and theoretical understanding of plastering in the space of just a few days.

For more in-depth information about our five-day or 10-day intensive plastering course, simply browse our relevant course pages online. You’re also welcome to call the YTA team, on 01274 682199, if you have any questions that you would like to have answered before you book.

Take that first big step to a rewarding new life as a plasterer, by reserving your place on an intensive plastering course with YTA today!
