- Homeowners and renovators: understand the work involved and develop the skills to take a more active role in your kitchen project.
- Existing tradespeople: build on your practical experience and work towards offering kitchen installation alongside your other services.
- Landlords and property maintenance workers: learn skills relevant to improving and maintaining kitchens.
- Career changers and beginners: explore a practical trade through a structured installation project.

What You Will Learn During the Five Days
Plan the Layout and Set Out the Kitchen
Learn how to plan a kitchen around the available space and the requirements of the design. Explore unit choices, measurements and the positioning of base and wall units before starting the installation.
Assemble and Fit the Units
Work on assembling cupboards, positioning and levelling base units, hanging wall units and fitting doors and handles. Your project also includes positioning and fitting the extractor hood as part of the kitchen installation.
Use Kitchen Fitting Tools
Learn how to set up and use tools including a router, worktop jig, jigsaw and circular saw. Instructor demonstrations and practical guidance help you understand how to approach the different cutting and fitting tasks.
Build Confidence with Worktops, Routers and Corner Joints
A worktop joint can feel like the most daunting part of fitting a kitchen. Accurate setting out, correct tool setup and the opportunity to practise make that task easier to understand.
A significant part of this course is usually spent on router setup, worktop jointing and practical router training. You will learn to use a router and worktop jig to create a mason’s mitre corner joint.
We have practice worktops available and aim for you to complete two or three practice joints before moving on to the full-length worktop for your kitchen installation. The time spent on this work and the amount of practice will depend on your existing experience, confidence with the tools and progress.
You will also work on cutting the worktop to accommodate a sink and hob, and finishing exposed worktop ends.
Complete the Finishing Details
Bring the installation together with plinths, cornice, doors and handles. Learn how to shape end panels around skirting profiles and approach the finishing details that help a kitchen look carefully fitted.
Your progress matters. Students with strong practical experience may move through some tasks more quickly. Where appropriate, your instructor may offer additional relevant guidance or related workshop tasks. The course develops around your progress through the kitchen fitting work.

Why Learn Kitchen Fitting at YTA?
YTA has provided practical construction training since 2006. This course gives you a workshop project to work through, with experienced instruction and opportunities to ask questions as the installation takes shape.
You can practise the parts you find unfamiliar, understand the order of the work and develop your approach before applying those skills to your own projects. Our policy of booking one kitchen-fitting student at a time helps keep the course focused on practical participation.
Read YTA student reviews to hear about other learners’ experiences.
Take a Practical Step Towards the Work You Want to Do
For a homeowner, your goal might be the satisfaction of fitting your own kitchen. For a tradesperson, it could be developing the ability to take on more of a renovation. For someone changing direction, this week can be a useful first step towards work you enjoy.
The course provides an introduction you can build on through practice and experience. If you intend to offer kitchen fitting to customers, use your training to develop your skills further and choose projects that match your ability.
