- Career changers: explore a practical trade and take a first step towards a different working life.
- Landlords, renovators and property-maintenance workers: understand more of the preparation and finishing involved in property improvements.

Your Five Days of Practical Tiling Training
The week follows the work through from planning and preparation to cutting and finishing. You will practise in your training bay, handling the materials and working around features you would encounter in kitchens and bathrooms.
Monday: Prepare, Set Out and Tile a Kitchen
Begin with health and safety, tools and materials. Learn how to prepare suitable backgrounds and plan a kitchen layout before starting the practical tiling.
Use manual and wet tile cutters under instruction, apply adhesive, position and space tiles, and work through grouting. You will start to see how the choices made during setting out affect the finished appearance.
Tuesday: Finish the Kitchen and Tile Around a Window
Develop the finishing details, including cleaning, polishing and silicone sealing. Then move on to a larger wall area containing a window.
Practise planning the cuts around the opening, using trims and maintaining alignment as the tiling continues across the wall and towards floor level.
Wednesday: Awkward Cuts and Starting the Bathroom
Explore tile types, adhesives, grouts and tools, then work on marking and cutting around obstacles such as waste pipes, basin pedestals, corners and door profiles.
Prepare, batten and set out a bathroom training area before beginning the wall tiling. This gives you more to think about when deciding where the tiles and cuts should fall.
Thursday: Bathroom Details, Measuring and Quoting
Continue the bathroom walls, making cuts around the bath, bath ends and shower pipes. Practise drilling suitable holes through tiles and reviewing the finish of your work.
You will also learn about measuring a project, calculating tile quantities, considering materials and labour, and preparing a customer quotation.
Friday: Bathroom Floor Tiling and Your Next Steps
Prepare, set out and tile the bathroom floor, bringing together your cutting, layout and fixing skills. Review the week’s work and ask any remaining questions about tools, techniques and further practice.
