YTA’s 2 Day Kitchen Tiling Course gives you practical instruction in tiling a typical kitchen wall area, from surface preparation through to grouting and silicone finishing. You will work around the features that make a kitchen project more involved, including socket positions, returns and a window.

Complete beginners are welcome. Short explanations and demonstrations lead straight into practical work, with guidance as you develop your skills.

You do not need to arrive knowing how to use a tile cutter or spread adhesive. We explain the process, demonstrate the techniques and help you put them into practice.

What You Will Learn

The course follows a kitchen tiling project through its main stages. You will see how the preparation and layout decisions affect the finish, then practise the techniques yourself.

Prepare the Surface and Plan the Layout

Learn how to approach surface preparation and set out a kitchen wall area before fixing tiles. Your training project includes socket positions, a return and a window, so you can practise planning around real features.

• Preparing the surface for tiling.

• Considering where cuts will fall before you start fixing.

Cut, Fix and Tile around a Window

Develop your measuring and cutting skills, apply adhesive and fix the tiles in your kitchen training area. Work through the additional detail needed around a window and learn a common method of finishing the opening.

• Measuring and cutting tiles to fit the layout.
• Applying tile adhesive and positioning tiles.
• Maintaining spacing and alignment.
• Tiling around a window and completing its edges.

Grout, Clean and Silicone the Finished Work

Finishing makes a visible difference to a kitchen project. Practise grouting, cleaning the tiled area and applying silicone at the appropriate joints, bringing the work together into a completed training project.

• Applying grout to the tiled area.
• Cleaning the tile faces and finishing the grout joints.
• Applying silicone where required.
• Reviewing the completed work and asking questions.

Learn by Working on a Practical Project

It is easier to understand a tiling technique when you can try it, ask a question and see what changes in the finished work. At YTA, short teaching sessions and demonstrations lead into hands-on practice with instructor guidance.

You will also receive printed reference information covering adhesives and the subjects taught, giving you useful notes to revisit after the course.

Kitchen Tiling Course Questions

Can I attend with no tiling experience?

Yes. The course is suitable for complete beginners. You will receive explanations, demonstrations and practical guidance throughout your kitchen tiling project.

Will I practise tiling around windows and sockets?

Yes. Setting out includes socket positions, a return and a window. You will also practise tiling and finishing around the window. The course covers tiling around these features; electrical work is outside its scope.

Does the course include floor tiling?

The focus is kitchen wall and splashback tiling. For floors, choose the 2 Day Floor Tiling Course or a longer wall and floor tiling course.

Do I receive a certificate?

Yes. This course is Non-accredited with certificate of attendance. It provides practical introductory training. The ten-day Level 1 course is available for students who want an assessed route.

Teaching runs from 9am to 4pm on each course day. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
