What could you learn in five days on our practical plumbing course?

It would be easy to imagine that a mere five days could never be enough time to move from zero experience or expertise in plumbing, to a position of confidence in undertaking such key plumbing tasks as changing taps, plumbing in kitchen sinks and even full bathroom replacements.

YTA’s five-day practical plumbing course introduces the core tasks involved in domestic plumbing in a supervised workshop. It is non-accredited and includes a YTA completion certificate. Further practice and experience are needed before taking on work independently.

If you want an accredited route, see our ten-day plumbing course with the optional Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations. The five-day course does not include that qualification.

A hands-on introduction that will significantly boost your confidence

Some of those who enrol on our practical intensive plumbing course in the UK are true novices with no prior background in plumbing or any other trade, while others are existing tradespersons – such as plasterers, tilers, joiners or kitchen fitters – who are interested in adding plumbing skills to their armoury. Thankfully, this acclaimed five-day course is excellently designed for all of these groups.

It all begins on the Monday, when students will get to grips with 15mm and 22mm copper pipe and fixings, as well as fitting isolation valves and pipe bending. Various fittings and tools will be used on this first day to produce pipework.

Tuesday, meanwhile, focuses on planning and installing a bathroom – encompassing such elements as the bath, taps, toilet, basin and all wastes. This day includes testing the installed bathroom up to mains working pressure, so that if any leaks are detected, they can be fixed.

All of this will be followed by a Wednesday that will look at toilets, including a full strip-down and explanation of internal cistern fittings and various types of flush mechanisms.

Come Thursday, you can expect to be installing a small two-radiator system – or three radiators, if your skills and the timeframe allow for this. Then, on Friday, you will be tasked with plumbing up a kitchen sink and hot and cold pipework. It is on this final day of the course that you will also be taking on your first job – the addition of a garden tap to your completed kitchen pipework.

The five-day course provides a practical introduction to plumbing. Choose work that matches your competence and experience, and continue developing your skills after the course.

And of course, extra content is also provided that features on every other YTA plumbing course, including ‘tricks of the trade’ and full measuring and in-depth quoting based on your full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

During the 1 day plumbing taster course you will cover the below topics:

  • Use compression joints, end feed (soldering joints) and pipe bending techniques.
  • Work with copper and plastic pipe

The 1 day plumbing taster course can be suited to your requirements, if you would just like to ‘have a go’ at plumbing and see how you get on then we can devise a taster day. Cannot recommend this place enough…recently completed 2 weeks carpentry & joinery along with 2 weeks plumbing followed by a week of kitchen fitting course and tiling. The tutors are a real asset, the centre itself is well equipped and teaches you what you need to know to start off along with some inside trade tips. I recommend this to all starting out property developers out there or even Tradies wanted to branch out.

Fantastic 5 star reviews following recent YTA course

We love reading your YTA training course reviews and these two latest ones are no exception. Thank you.

I’m a female property investor constantly forking out for small plumbing repairs – so wanted to learn to do it myself. It makes financial sense to pay someone to do the work for me. However – because I need to turn up at a property when there is an issue – it makes sense I fix it while I’m there because most times it will be something very simple (but I didn’t know how to fix these issues…. Until now!) I was worried about being the only girl, but felt instantly relaxed. Lyndon was a great teacher and good laugh. On the 5 day intensive plumbing course I learned how to fit pipes using soldering and compression fittings, plumb a full bathroom (fitting the pipes through the entire bathroom, plumbing in all taps, putting the toilet together etc), fit radiators, fit a kitchen sink with plumbing (including T-ing off for a washing machine and an outside tap). I’ve learned a few jobs tradesmen have done for me were nonsense – so now I’m much wiser to what is required (and can do it myself). The biggest surprise was how easy repairing a toilet is. Parts are usually around £10 (£20 max) and they screw in so why waste money having someone come fix it? As soon as I got home I fixed a few issues that had been bugging me for months. I may return to do joinery or learn to fit worktops next. Thanks YTA!

I did the 5 day plumbing course which l believe is beneficial to anyone who wants to improve their skills & knowledge in domestic plumbing. The teachers are brilliant and I’m going back to try some other courses
