Plumbing

5th January 2021 By Liz Spider

What’s the difference between our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plumbing courses?

It’s hardly surprising that so many people are drawn to the idea of becoming a plumber, especially at times of economic uncertainty like the present. But if you’re seeking the right intensive plumbing course in the UK, you may understandably become a little confused by the various options offered by training providers like YTA.

So, let’s look specifically at our five-day and 10-day courses that will give you a Level 1 plumbing qualification, the Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations. How do they differ?

A strong platform for a rewarding plumbing career

The short answer to the above question is that the 10-day course effectively constitutes an extended version of the five-day course. That means both courses will train and assess you on two units – ‘Introduction to plumbing work’ and ‘Carrying out plumbing operations’ – and both enable you to earn a qualification accredited by Ascentis Awarding Organisation.

No less importantly, both of these courses provide a sturdy foundation for future professional success as a plumber. You don’t need any previous experience to take on either route, and once you’ve completed your chosen intensive plumbing course in the UK, you should possess the confidence and skills needed to develop a plumbing career.

Build your capabilities as a plumber at our trusted training centre

The five-day course – which is, of course, the same as the first five days of the 10-day course – will see you taking on such tasks as working with and using copper pipe and fixings, planning and installing a bathroom, fault finding, installing a small two-radiator system, and plumbing up a kitchen sink.

And that’s just a quick summary of some of the interesting plumbing challenges that will await you over the five days, as the instructor also explains how to tackle various problems with real-life solutions. You’ll also find out about pricing jobs and business start-up.

Stay with us for a second week on our 10-day course, though, and you’ll get to expand on what you learned during the first week. You will be given the opportunity, for example, to complete the fitting of a domestic hot water storage system, and will also learn more about bathroom plumbing, rainwater guttering, hoppers and drainage.

You can discover more about just how much an intensive plumbing course in the UK can cover by perusing our various online course pages. Remember that regardless of which course you enrol on, you’ll also become well-versed in plumbing ‘tricks of the trade’, as well as in full measuring and in-depth quoting based on full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

Call 01274 682199 or 07400 922788, or email info@ytatraining.com, and we’ll be pleased to advise you on your options, so that you can be sure of getting your new life as a plumber off to the strongest start.

You only need a week or two to become a capable plumber with us

It’s the phrase that has been uttered by people disgruntled with their careers seemingly since time immemorial; “I should’ve just become a plumber”. Well, given that we officially have a recession on our hands, is now the time to make good on that vague declaration of frustration with your lot, by actually training to be a plumber?

Of course, here at YTA, we would only wish to encourage the most responsible career choices. Indeed, while the National Careers Service advises that experienced plumbers can command salaries of as much as £40,000 a year, you also need to be sure it is the right long-term path for you.

Nonetheless, if you do come to the conclusion that becoming a plumber should be your next big professional step, our training centre can help you to get off to a great start with it, when you take on one of our five-day or 10-day plumbing courses.

Make us your destination for Level 1 plumbing training

As we mentioned in the title of this blog post, you only need to join us at our Bradford premises for a week or two to be able to put yourself in a highly advantageous position to start your plumbing career.

Our five-day intensive Level 1 plumbing course, for instance, culminates in the successful student being granted the nationally recognised Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations, accredited by Ascentis Awarding Organisation.

People leaving this very hands-on, practical course have gone on to use their newly acquired knowledge and confidence to take on plumbing jobs around the home and even start up as professional plumbers.

But you might be just as interested to learn that you don’t need to possess any prior experience in plumbing to take on this course – it really is excellently suited to total beginners, as well as those working in other trades, such as tiling or plastering, who wish to expand their skills base.

Or get even more when you join us for five days more

OK, so you now know that you can earn a Level 1 plumbing qualification if you sign up for our five-day Level 1 course. But you might not have known that we also run a five-day advanced plumbing course that represents a natural continuation of the five-day Level 1 course for further developing your burgeoning plumbing skills.

Alternatively, you might fancy effectively taking on both of these courses at once, by enrolling on our 10-Day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course.

Again, this 10-day course includes the chance to earn the aforementioned Level 1 qualification if you desire this. However, it’ll also allow you to become an even more confident and capable plumber when it comes to such tasks as installing domestic hot water storage systems, fitting radiators including thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), central heating fault finding, and so much more.

Simply click through to the relevant pages for these courses on the YTA website to learn more about what each of them entails, and so that you can determine the training route that is likely to represent the best choice for you.

Then, don’t hesitate to get in touch directly with us to discuss your needs in greater detail and book your place on the most suitable course.

5 star YTA reviews this week!

We are happy to announce that we’ve received two 5 star YTA reviews this week taking our 5 star reviews tally up to 286! Wow, thank you everyone.

Or first review this week was left by Andy Flanagan who has completed our 10 day level 1 plumbing course. The first week was completed before the lockdown so now he was able to come back and finish off the second week of the plumbing course which covers domestic hot water and heating systems.

I recently did a level one 10 day plumbing course and thoroughly enjoyed it. One day I was plumbing a whole bathroom, next day plumbing radiators. Second week plumbing a whole central heating system. A very hands on and practical teaching course, no sitting in classrooms. Both graham and Lyndon were superb. I’ll be back at some point later this year to do tiling and plastering. Thanks gents.

Andy Flanagan 10 day plumbing course review. 5 star YTA reviews this week

Thank you Andy for the great YTA review.

Our next review came in from Michael Seal who completed the 5 day plumbing course last week.

I recently completed the five-day plumbing course at YTA. Before this course, I had no experience in plumbing whatsoever. I have a few small plumbing jobs to do around the house and recently experienced a leak which is when I realised I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to plumbing. The YTA was perfect, and it’s hands-on approach means you are bending, cutting and soldering pipes before lunchtime on day one. The rest of the week was spent plumbing bathrooms, radiators, kitchens, outside taps and waste pipes. All the instructors have years of experience as plumbers and share their experiences and tips as you go through the week. I highly recommend this course for anyone that wants a hands-on introduction to plumbing or even think of changing trades and becoming a plumber. I plan on going back later this year to do the carpentry course.

Thank you Michael for such a great review, glad you enjoyed the course and we look forward to you possibly coming back for the carpentry and joinery course.

Plumbing course video review by Josef Faddoul

YTA Plumbing course video review by Josef Faddoul.

Another great plumbing course video review is now available to watch on our YouTube channel! Josef Faddoul completed the 5 day plumbing course in February 2020 and was more than happy with the training and support he received throughout the plumbing course that he immediately booked more courses with YTA.

Whats Covered on the plumbing course:

The 5 day plumbing course will see you working with copper pipe and fixings, plumbing in a bathroom, a small 3 radiator system including thermostatic radiator valves, understanding different heating systems, plumbing in a kitchen sink including waste pipes plus plenty of fault finding and repair work throughout the week.

Thank you for such a great YTA plumbing course review Josef, looking forward to having you back at YTA to complete your other courses.

What could you learn in just five days on our Level 1 intensive plumbing course?

It would be easy to imagine that a mere five days could never be enough time to move from zero experience or expertise in plumbing, to a position of confidence in undertaking such key plumbing tasks as changing taps, plumbing in kitchen sinks and even full bathroom replacements.

This, though, is perfectly possible when you take on YTA’s Level 1 intensive plumbing course in the UK – and not only that, but completing this route will also give you a nationally recognised qualification.

The course in question consists of two units; introduction to construction work, and carrying out plumbing operations. Achieve both units, and you will be able to attain the full qualification ‘Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations’, courtesy of Ascentis Awarding Organisation. This, in turn, will provide an invaluable platform for further training with YTA.

A hands-on introduction that will significantly boost your confidence

Some of those who enrol on our Level 1 intensive plumbing course in the UK are true novices with no prior background in plumbing or any other trade, while others are existing tradespersons – such as plasterers, tilers, joiners or kitchen fitters – who are interested in adding plumbing skills to their armoury. Thankfully, this acclaimed five-day course is excellently designed for all of these groups.

It all begins on the Monday, when students will get to grips with 15mm and 22mm copper pipe and fixings, as well as fitting isolation valves and pipe bending. Various fittings and tools will be used on this first day to produce pipework.

Tuesday, meanwhile, focuses on planning and installing a bathroom – encompassing such elements as the bath, taps, toilet, basin and all wastes. This day includes testing the installed bathroom up to mains working pressure, so that if any leaks are detected, they can be fixed.

All of this will be followed by a Wednesday that will look at toilets, including a full strip-down and explanation of internal cistern fittings and various types of flush mechanisms.

Come Thursday, you can expect to be installing a small two-radiator system – or three radiators, if your skills and the timeframe allow for this. Then, on Friday, you will be tasked with plumbing up a kitchen sink and hot and cold pipework. It is on this final day of the course that you will also be taking on your first job – the addition of a garden tap to your completed kitchen pipework.

You’ll struggle to find a finer intensive plumbing course in the UK

With this course having been designed to arm those enrolling with all of the knowhow and confidence they will require to start plumbing jobs straight after qualifying, when it comes to five-day plumbing courses, you can’t expect to find a more comprehensive option than this one.

And of course, extra content is also provided that features on every other YTA plumbing course, including ‘tricks of the trade’ and full measuring and in-depth quoting based on your full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

So, we would humbly suggest that you don’t hesitate to snap up your place on this highly respected and far-reaching course!

Call 01274 682199 now to book or ask any questions you may have about this Level 1 intensive plumbing course in the UK, including in relation to the latest available dates.
