Plumbing

25th November 2022 By Liz Spider

Whether over five or 10 days, we’ll help you gain an invaluable plumbing qualification at Level 1

If it has ever crossed your mind to learn a trade, there’s a good chance that plumbing is one of the trades that you will have considered. There are understandable reasons for that, including the famed job security of plumbing as a career, as well as the fact that you could enjoy earnings as high as £40,000 a year once you have become experienced in this field.

But let’s presume that as someone reading this, you’re at the other end of the experience spectrum, having not even undertaken a rudimentary plumbing task so far in your life.

Or perhaps you’re skilled in another trade such as tiling, plastering or joinery, and you like the idea of expanding your capabilities so that you can, for instance, change a tap or plumb in a kitchen sink, in the event of a customer of yours requesting this?

If either of the above situations describes you, you might have already been comparing plumbing courses, and considering which one might represent the best match to your requirements. Well, here at YTA, we present the opportunity for you to earn a full Level 1 qualification in order to get your plumbing career off to the best possible start – in as little as five days.

Could you really become a qualified plumber in just five days?

Yes, you read that correctly; you only need to be at our Yorkshire training centre for less than a week if you join our five-day intensive Level 1 plumbing course, which – if you are successful in satisfying the requirements – leads to the Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations.

This course will see you trained and assessed in two units – one that introduces you to construction work, and another focusing on carrying out plumbing operations. Over the five days, you will take on such tasks as the fitting of isolation valves and the bending of pipes on the first day, right through to a final day when you will be plumbing up a kitchen sink, completing a tap washer replacement, and finishing a small project, such as re-doing a bathroom in plastic pipe.

Or you would be very welcome to join us for the full 10 days

For an even more detailed introduction to what life is truly like as a plumber, you always have the option of enrolling on our 10-day intensive plumbing course at Level 1.

This programme effectively rolls together two five-day courses – the latter our five-day advanced plumbing course – and will allow you to develop your plumbing skills to an even greater extent. The second week of this course will enable you to complete the fitting of a domestic hot-water storage system, in addition to learning how to fit a full bathroom suite. You can also expect to be trained in relation to rainwater guttering, hoppers, and drainage.

The above rundown encompasses just some of the aspects of this exciting trade that our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plumbing courses here at YTA can educate you in, so that you benefit from the strongest possible platform for your future as a plumber.

To learn more and to receive advice on the best route forward for you, why not contact our team via email or phone today, the latter by calling 01274 682199?

Yes, you really could have a Level 1 plumbing qualification in a mere 10 days

10 days, or about two weeks once weekends are accounted for; it’s not a huge amount of time to invest in a course of action that could dramatically transform your life for the better – not just for 2022 or even a few years, but for potentially the rest of your working days.

And yet, this is precisely the opportunity that could await you in the form of our 10-day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course.

If that term ‘Level 1’ has piqued your interest, yes, this really is a course that could give you a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification if you complete it successfully.

It is worth noting, however, that the qualification in question – the Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations – is optional. Indeed, if you opt for the version of this course without the qualification, you will benefit from the same comprehensive and high-quality training.

Why might you take on this 10-day plumbing course?

If you have long liked the idea of becoming a plumber and you have decided to get serious about it, but you really are a total novice with no previous experience of this popular trade, you’ve come to the right place in YTA.

Yes, this course is well-suited to those who have never done any kind of plumbing before, as well as those who already work in a trade such as tiling, plastering or kitchen fitting, and wish to add plumbing to their skills repertoire. If the latter describes your situation more accurately, it could be a great idea to take on this course to help bolster your employability.

Then, there are those people who enrol on this training course simply out of a wish to improve their competence and confidence when it comes to plumbing tasks they may fancy undertaking around the house.

So, whether you expect to take on plumbing on a relatively casual basis, or instead put in place the foundations for a plumbing career, this course could be an excellent starting point for you.

10 days of wide-ranging, top-to-bottom plumbing training

As we explain on the relevant course page, it is possible to undertake this course as two separate five-day courses, instead of the 10 days all at once.

If you do take on the full course in one go, however, you really can look forward to a highly stimulating 10 days. Beginning with the basics of pipe bending and fitting isolation valves, right through to the planning and installation of a bathroom, repairing toilet faults, fitting radiator systems, plumbing up a kitchen sink, and so much more, you really will learn a lot as one of our Level 1 plumbing students.

You can find out more about everything the course covers on the aforementioned course page. This really is one of our most sought-after courses here at YTA, and when it comes to construction trade courses in Yorkshire, you really can’t hope to find a more reputable provider than us.

Give us a call or send us an email now, and we will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about this or any of our other well-regarded courses, so that you can be sure of making the most informed choice for your own career ambitions and needs.

Take the first steps to becoming a plumber in just five days

When first setting out into a new profession, it’s crucial to have a solid foundation on which to build a satisfying career.

This is why, when it comes to our Preparation for Plumbing Operations level 1 course, we at YTA want you to emerge with the ability to take on a variety of plumbing jobs.

Our five-day plumbing level 1 course is just one of our many popular and renowned plumbing courses. It is suitable for total beginners or tradespersons who want to expand their skillset. These days, the tradesperson who can do a wide range of plumbing tasks is likely to win more jobs than the person who can only do one or two.

What does this course entail?

Our five-day level 1 plumbing course will provide you with invaluable insight and understanding into the plumbing trade.

The course is very hands on and practical, but you will also be trained and assessed in two units: Introduction to construction work and Carrying out plumbing operations. Completing both of these units successfully will enable you to achieve the full Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations.

On day one, you’ll work with 15mm and 22mm copper pipe and fixings, fitting isolation valves and pipe bending. You’ll also get to grips with various fitting tools for the production of pipework.

Day two will see you planning and fitting a bathroom. The bathroom will be tested against mains working pressure – any leaks will have to be fixed.

The third day of the course will teach you the anatomy of a toilet and the process of repairing different faults. You will also learn about common call out jobs, work out how to price them, and give thought to hourly and day rates.

Day four will be all about radiators. You will install a small two-radiator system, or even three radiators if your skills and the timeframe enable this, using copper pipe and fittings. Then, you will fill to pressure and bleed the radiator, checking for leaks, before removing the radiator with water inside, and learn about the hanging and refitting of radiators.

Your final day will teach you about the kitchen and the various plumbing jobs commonly associated with this all-important part of the home. Eventually, it will be time for you to fit a garden tap to the kitchen pipework. This will be followed by us explaining how to install a shower.

Does this sound like the course for you? Get in touch!

Many of the students of our plumbing courses go on to have highly rewarding careers as plumbers. However, this course is also designed to give you the confidence to fix plumbing issues around the house – no matter how big or small.

Enquire to us today if you have any further questions about this or any of our other highly rated plumbing courses, as well as to book your place.

What to expect from our 10-day Level 1 plumbing course at YTA

Whether you want to be able to take on plumbing jobs around the home with more confidence, or start up as a working plumber, YTA has a range of plumbing courses suitable for a range of abilities and skill sets. One of our most popular is the 10-day Level 1 plumbing course.

Our Level 1 plumbing course is suitable for total beginners or tradespeople from different fields who might wish to add plumbing to their armoury of skills. With this course under your belt – and possibly a Level 1 qualification, if you choose this option – you will be able to become a confident and skilled plumber, with a strong platform for career success.

After the full 10 days, you will have been trained and assessed in two units; ‘Introduction to construction work’ and ‘Carrying out plumbing operations’. Achieving these will enable you to earn the full Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations.

So, whatever the reason you might be looking for an intensive plumbing course in the UK, the 10-day Level 1 plumbing course here at YTA might be just the one for you. Here is what you can expect from this nationally recognised intensive plumbing course in the UK.

Week 1 – 5-day Level 1 intensive plumbing course

Monday – The first day of this course will entail you working with 15mm and 22mm copper pipe and fixings, in addition to fitting isolation valves and pipe bending.

Tuesday – Tuesday’s class will be about all things bathrooms, encompassing planning, installation, testing and the fixing of any leaks that might arise at the latter stage.

Wednesday – This day will include an explanation of internal cistern fittings and the various flush mechanisms you might encounter. You will also learn about fault finding and the diagnosis and fixing of those faults.

Thursday – This day will cover the installation, bleeding and fixing of radiators.

Friday – On the final day of week one of your intensive plumbing course in the UK, you will get to grips with plumbing up a kitchen sink and hot and cold pipework, as well as a tee off for a washing machine or dishwasher.

Week 2 – 5-day advanced plumbing course

The second week of the course is all about building on the knowledge you picked up in the first week. For example, you will have already learnt how to install a radiator, so now we’ll move on to domestic hot water storage systems and central heating cylinders.

Among many other skills, you will also cover the fitting of header tanks and gate valves, a thermostatic mixer shower, and a shower pump.

Extra tips and tricks

The 10-day course might be mainly made up of the content from our two five-day courses, but there are also some extra bits we have included. These include various tips and tricks of the plumbing trade, as well as full measuring and in-depth quoting based on full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

What’s the difference between our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plumbing courses?

It’s hardly surprising that so many people are drawn to the idea of becoming a plumber, especially at times of economic uncertainty like the present. But if you’re seeking the right intensive plumbing course in the UK, you may understandably become a little confused by the various options offered by training providers like YTA.

So, let’s look specifically at our five-day and 10-day courses that will give you a Level 1 plumbing qualification, the Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations. How do they differ?

A strong platform for a rewarding plumbing career

The short answer to the above question is that the 10-day course effectively constitutes an extended version of the five-day course. That means both courses will train and assess you on two units – ‘Introduction to plumbing work’ and ‘Carrying out plumbing operations’ – and both enable you to earn a qualification accredited by Ascentis Awarding Organisation.

No less importantly, both of these courses provide a sturdy foundation for future professional success as a plumber. You don’t need any previous experience to take on either route, and once you’ve completed your chosen intensive plumbing course in the UK, you should possess the confidence and skills needed to develop a plumbing career.

Build your capabilities as a plumber at our trusted training centre

The five-day course – which is, of course, the same as the first five days of the 10-day course – will see you taking on such tasks as working with and using copper pipe and fixings, planning and installing a bathroom, fault finding, installing a small two-radiator system, and plumbing up a kitchen sink.

And that’s just a quick summary of some of the interesting plumbing challenges that will await you over the five days, as the instructor also explains how to tackle various problems with real-life solutions. You’ll also find out about pricing jobs and business start-up.

Stay with us for a second week on our 10-day course, though, and you’ll get to expand on what you learned during the first week. You will be given the opportunity, for example, to complete the fitting of a domestic hot water storage system, and will also learn more about bathroom plumbing, rainwater guttering, hoppers and drainage.

You can discover more about just how much an intensive plumbing course in the UK can cover by perusing our various online course pages. Remember that regardless of which course you enrol on, you’ll also become well-versed in plumbing ‘tricks of the trade’, as well as in full measuring and in-depth quoting based on full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

Call 01274 682199 or 07400 922788, or email info@ytatraining.com, and we’ll be pleased to advise you on your options, so that you can be sure of getting your new life as a plumber off to the strongest start.

You only need a week or two to become a capable plumber with us

It’s the phrase that has been uttered by people disgruntled with their careers seemingly since time immemorial; “I should’ve just become a plumber”. Well, given that we officially have a recession on our hands, is now the time to make good on that vague declaration of frustration with your lot, by actually training to be a plumber?

Of course, here at YTA, we would only wish to encourage the most responsible career choices. Indeed, while the National Careers Service advises that experienced plumbers can command salaries of as much as £40,000 a year, you also need to be sure it is the right long-term path for you.

Nonetheless, if you do come to the conclusion that becoming a plumber should be your next big professional step, our training centre can help you to get off to a great start with it, when you take on one of our five-day or 10-day plumbing courses.

Make us your destination for Level 1 plumbing training

As we mentioned in the title of this blog post, you only need to join us at our Bradford premises for a week or two to be able to put yourself in a highly advantageous position to start your plumbing career.

Our five-day intensive Level 1 plumbing course, for instance, culminates in the successful student being granted the nationally recognised Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations, accredited by Ascentis Awarding Organisation.

People leaving this very hands-on, practical course have gone on to use their newly acquired knowledge and confidence to take on plumbing jobs around the home and even start up as professional plumbers.

But you might be just as interested to learn that you don’t need to possess any prior experience in plumbing to take on this course – it really is excellently suited to total beginners, as well as those working in other trades, such as tiling or plastering, who wish to expand their skills base.

Or get even more when you join us for five days more

OK, so you now know that you can earn a Level 1 plumbing qualification if you sign up for our five-day Level 1 course. But you might not have known that we also run a five-day advanced plumbing course that represents a natural continuation of the five-day Level 1 course for further developing your burgeoning plumbing skills.

Alternatively, you might fancy effectively taking on both of these courses at once, by enrolling on our 10-Day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course.

Again, this 10-day course includes the chance to earn the aforementioned Level 1 qualification if you desire this. However, it’ll also allow you to become an even more confident and capable plumber when it comes to such tasks as installing domestic hot water storage systems, fitting radiators including thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), central heating fault finding, and so much more.

Simply click through to the relevant pages for these courses on the YTA website to learn more about what each of them entails, and so that you can determine the training route that is likely to represent the best choice for you.

Then, don’t hesitate to get in touch directly with us to discuss your needs in greater detail and book your place on the most suitable course.

I'll be honest when I saw the advertisement and checked the place on google, I said another course to waste time, and contrary to having judged the place, the course was above my expectations, very practical, excellent teaching, I recommend 100 % five stars.

As an unskilled landlord I felt a little exposed due to the lack of plumbers out there doing small jobs, leaking sinks, new toilet inlets etc etc. I contacted YTA to bridge that gap a bit. After 5 days, I actually feel far more comfortable and I am actually going to tackle installing a bathroom. Very good, hands on training. Can be difficult to hear whats going on at times due to all trade training going on in the same room but I would definitely recommend them. I am actually going to do joinery, kitchen fitting and plastering too within the next 12 months.

Just finished the 5 day kitchen fitting course with Paul. I had very limited skills prior to this but have learnt loads and now feel totally competent to fully fit out my mums kitchen and utility room myself. Great course with very experienced tutor. Highly recommended. I'm going to do the plumbing course next. Thanks Paul and YTA.

Can't rate this place enough. I've done plumbing, plastering, and am about to finish a joinery course. The instructors are all very skilled in their respective trades and the class sizes are small enough that you have time to go at your own pace and really learn. All the instructors are very approachable and happy to answer questions, however stupid I thought they might sound. If you're considering a course here my advice is to do it. I started with virtually no practical skill at all and after each course I'm now confident that I can put these skills to good use in my house, and what I could produce by the end of each course is much better than what I've seen some tradesmen produce. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you'll learn at this place, even with no prior experience.

Finished my 10 day tiling course with Gary and it was superb.Considering I'd never laid a tile prior to starting the course and then to be tiling by 10am the morning is amazing and it's a credit to him, he has confidence in the people he's training even if they don't haha. Without thinking you just do it, he guides you along swimmingly.Gary, without saying it, recognises your pace and how confident or not you are and he goes with YOUR flow which I feel is correct.

I attended a 5 day plastering course .All the instructors are great and easy to get on with. Dave the plastering instructor is a top lad .Nothing to much trouble and really helpful.I’ve already started on my own house and the course definitely gave me the basics I needed to point me in the right direction.I would recommend Dave and all the staff to anyone thinking about having a go.I’m 61 served my time as a bricklayer straight from school but I wish I’d given plastering a shot years ago.Best thing I’ve done in a long time. Also ‘Bradford Digs’ great little place to stay.Cheers to all…Andy.
