10 day course

6th May 2022 By Liz Spider

You’ll cover even more ground than you expect when you take on our 10-day accredited carpentry and joinery course

Here at YTA, we have long been known as one of the leading accredited centres for construction training, and this much is reflected in both the breadth and depth of our courses themselves.

That ‘accredited’ detail is a particularly important one when it comes to our top carpentry course, the 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Accredited Carpentry and Joinery Course. That’s because it is a course giving those who enrol the chance to complete three Cskills accredited units of training, in relation to three crucial aspects of carpentry: door lining, hanging a door, and skirting and architrave. A further unit on window frames can also be added as a ‘bolt-on’.

Achieving all three of the essential Level 1 units will give you six credits and the opportunity to be awarded a NOCN Cskills unit accreditation certificate for ‘Skills for Carpentry & Joinery’. But what are the exact skills and knowledge that you can expect to acquire if you do commit to this course?

Get your carpentry career off to the best possible start

Our Level 1 course is specifically aimed at those who are interested in getting started in carpentry and joinery as a career, with an eye to eventually gaining the Cskills NVQ Level 2 in Site Carpentry. It is, then, a true beginner’s course, no prior experience in carpentry being needed before you embark on it – and this is reflected in how the course has been designed.

As the course gets underway, then, you can expect to first learn about how to use the basic hand tools associated with this trade. These will include the different saws that are used for various woods, as well as chisels and how to correctly use them.

You will then proceed to develop your skills in marking, cutting, and chiselling, by taking on a series of common woodwork joints of increasing levels of difficulty. That will provide the foundation for you to move on to such tasks as the building of a door frame, and the building of a stud partition with doorway. After that, you will get to handle architrave and skirting, including learning how to mite a skirting board on internal and external angles, as well as straight angle cuts.

But there’s even more catered for in this comprehensive course

One of our hallmarks as one of the most trusted accredited centres for construction training, is a commitment to going beyond the basics.

It is a policy that continues through our 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Accredited Carpentry and Joinery Course, with the full breadth of important areas of carpentry covered also encompassing the likes of scribing joints to fit mouldings and skirting, terms used in partitioning, site carpentry operations included in second fixings, and much more.

If you have any questions about what is and isn’t covered in this 10-day course, and if you would appreciate some more tailored advice on whether it could be the right training option for you, you are always welcome to give our team a call – on 01274 682199 – before you commit.

Alternatively, feel free to send us an email via our online contact page. With our courses being delivered every week from Monday to Friday, we are confident that we will be able to provide you with this training on dates to suit you, if you do decide this route matches well with your circumstances and ambitions.

By the end of 10 days, you can be a Level 1-qualified tiler with our help

Becoming a tiler may not be for everyone – to succeed in this occupation, after all, you will need to be able to work well with your hands, in addition to functioning well under pressure and organising your time and workload effectively.

But if you do have the qualities to thrive as a tiler, and you would like to train yourself up to Level 1 competence in a short space of time, you might have good reason to take a close look at our latest tiling intensive courses here at YTA.

You can be a confident and capable tiler in next to no time

We offer a series of tiling intensive courses, with the right choice for you likely to depend on such factors as why you are taking on such training, and what you intend to get out of it at the end. For this blog post, though, we’re focusing on our top wall and floor tiling course, which takes place over 10 days.

This course is an accredited course that involves the learner being trained and assessed on two NOCN Cskills Level 1 units: Tiling a Wall With Decorative Features (Square Tiles), and Tiling a Floor With Obstacles. Achievement of both these units will give you six credits at Level 1, entitling you to receive a unit accreditation certificate for ‘Skills for Tiling’.

If it would work out better around your practical needs for this course to be split into two separate weeks at different times, this is also something that can be arranged, with nothing extra needing to be paid for the split dates. Simply call YTA now, on 07400 922788, for further details on this, and for any additional advice on your situation.

The perfect training option when you need to build up your tiling competence

From the first day you join us at our training site in Yorkshire, when you will learn about the basics of tiling health and safety and the preparation of surfaces, right through to Friday in the second week when you will be installing underfloor heating and then tiling on it, this course will cover some serious ground in a mere 10 days.

And as is the case on all other YTA tiling intensive courses, your training on this course will also encompass such things as full measuring and in-depth quoting, marketing techniques, business cards, how to advertise, how to start up in business, and so much more.

With courses being held every week from Monday to Friday, we’re confident that we will be able to book you in for a date that makes sense for you – so that you can soon start the next exciting phase of your life and career. Enquire to us now via phone or email for more information.

Yes, you really could have a Level 1 plumbing qualification in a mere 10 days

10 days, or about two weeks once weekends are accounted for; it’s not a huge amount of time to invest in a course of action that could dramatically transform your life for the better – not just for 2022 or even a few years, but for potentially the rest of your working days.

And yet, this is precisely the opportunity that could await you in the form of our 10-day Level 1 Intensive Plumbing Course.

If that term ‘Level 1’ has piqued your interest, yes, this really is a course that could give you a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification if you complete it successfully.

It is worth noting, however, that the qualification in question – the Level 1 Award in Preparation for Plumbing Operations – is optional. Indeed, if you opt for the version of this course without the qualification, you will benefit from the same comprehensive and high-quality training.

Why might you take on this 10-day plumbing course?

If you have long liked the idea of becoming a plumber and you have decided to get serious about it, but you really are a total novice with no previous experience of this popular trade, you’ve come to the right place in YTA.

Yes, this course is well-suited to those who have never done any kind of plumbing before, as well as those who already work in a trade such as tiling, plastering or kitchen fitting, and wish to add plumbing to their skills repertoire. If the latter describes your situation more accurately, it could be a great idea to take on this course to help bolster your employability.

Then, there are those people who enrol on this training course simply out of a wish to improve their competence and confidence when it comes to plumbing tasks they may fancy undertaking around the house.

So, whether you expect to take on plumbing on a relatively casual basis, or instead put in place the foundations for a plumbing career, this course could be an excellent starting point for you.

10 days of wide-ranging, top-to-bottom plumbing training

As we explain on the relevant course page, it is possible to undertake this course as two separate five-day courses, instead of the 10 days all at once.

If you do take on the full course in one go, however, you really can look forward to a highly stimulating 10 days. Beginning with the basics of pipe bending and fitting isolation valves, right through to the planning and installation of a bathroom, repairing toilet faults, fitting radiator systems, plumbing up a kitchen sink, and so much more, you really will learn a lot as one of our Level 1 plumbing students.

You can find out more about everything the course covers on the aforementioned course page. This really is one of our most sought-after courses here at YTA, and when it comes to construction trade courses in Yorkshire, you really can’t hope to find a more reputable provider than us.

Give us a call or send us an email now, and we will be pleased to answer any questions you may have about this or any of our other well-regarded courses, so that you can be sure of making the most informed choice for your own career ambitions and needs.

Five or 10 days is all you might need to become a skilled and confident plasterer

As the UK economy continues its steady comeback from the lows of the coronavirus crisis, it’s fair to say that key construction skills like plastering will hardly become less important any time soon.

This helps explain our own wide range of highly regarded intensive plastering courses in the UK, including both five-day and 10-day options for those interested in working towards an NVQ Level 1 qualification.

What’s the big difference between our Level 1 five-day and 10-day courses?

While it’s far from the only qualification that aspiring plasterers might look to acquire, the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Plastering can provide a very strong foundation for subsequent success in this in-demand field.

You might have some experience in another trade, and wish to enhance your skill-set by taking on a course centred on plastering. Or maybe you’re a complete beginner? Regardless, taking on a five-day or 10-day Level 1 NVQ course at YTA’s West Yorkshire training centre could be one of the wisest decisions you ever make for your career.

The five-day course is effectively the first week of the 10-day course, and is priced accordingly. Completing and passing the five-day course will give you a NOCN Cskills Level 1 Plastering Walls unit accreditation. If, then, you would like to gain the full Level 1 Certificate in Plastering in one go, it’s the 10-day course that you will need to enrol on.

Put yourself to the test – and bolster your capability and employability

Whichever course of these two you commit to, we will give you a set of plastering tools to use during the course, and your own full-size plastering training bay to learn your craft in. Plus, with only five plastering training bays being used, you can be sure of benefitting from the high level of tuition and attention made possible by a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Students of our five-day course will have plenty of opportunity to learn the basic technique of plastering, in addition to over-skimming and repairing plastering. They will also get to grips with feathering in and board fixing.

These elements will also be covered if you enrol on our full 10-day course, but in the second week, you’ll also get to tackle the plastering of a full wall and ceilings as a complete project. We’ll also teach you more advanced techniques, including the plastering of arches and curves. In addition, as one of our students, you’ll learn how to work with the increasingly popular K-Rend onto block work.

You’ll cover an awful lot of ground on one of our intensive plastering courses in the UK – such vital subjects as health and safety, and starting up in business also being covered – and when you come out of it, you’ll possess a clear practical and theoretical understanding of plastering.

If, then, you want to put a platform in place for sustained success as a plasterer, you’ll struggle to find a better one than one of these Level 1 courses! If you have any further questions about what’s involved before booking your place, don’t hesitate to get in touch directly with the YTA team today.

Why not spend 10 days with us becoming a Level 1-qualified tiler?

There are many good reasons to consider taking on an advanced tiling course in the UK. One of those is naturally the strong appeal of tiling as a career, whether you are an existing tradesperson who would like to add tiling to your skill-set, or a complete newcomer to learning a trade. Nor can one entirely ignore the financial rewards, with experienced tilers potentially earning as much as £32,000 a year.

But if this is the professional path that you would like to embark on, what training options should you look at? One possibility we would suggest you seriously consider, is a 10-day Level 1 course that would allow you to achieve a full qualification for showing to future customers or employers.

Sure enough, here at YTA, we offer the 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Tiling course. Those signing up for this course will undertake four Cskills assessments as they learn all about tiling, with the opportunity to earn the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Wall and Floor Tiling.

You’ll learn a serious amount about tiling in just two weeks

This 10-day course effectively consists of our five-day intensive tiling course, followed by our five-day advanced tiling course in the UK.

Training in tiling via this particular course, however, will enable you to be trained and assessed in no fewer than four Cskills units, in relation to health and safety in construction trades, communicating effectively in construction trades, wall tiling and floor tiling.

As for the course content itself, you’ll start on Monday by learning about health and safety, before we proceed to train you in the preparation of surfaces and setting out the tiling of kitchens. You’ll then be taught how to cut the tiles with a tile cutter and a tile wet cutter, set out for the feature, and tile the kitchen. Grouting will also be covered, before the first day of the course is even over!

Over the rest of the first week, you’ll receive our renowned hands-on tuition in such tasks as silicone sealing, tiling around windows, marking and cutting tiles around obstacles such as basin pedestals and toilet waste pipes, and drilling holes in tiles. You’ll also get to grips with how to measure and quote for customers, and the preparation, setting out and tiling of a bathroom floor.

Even with all of that taught in the first week, there will be much more to come in the second week. This will be when you build your skills in such more advanced processes as tiling with diamond inserts, tiling around a window inside and out, tanking, plunge cutting, diamond drilling around waste and supply pipes, and installing under-floor heating before tiling on top of it.

There’s much more to be educated on when you take on this complete tiling course!

Your learning on this 10-day advanced tiling course in the UK won’t stop with all of the above. That’s because every YTA course also includes various other content, including useful ‘tricks of the trade’, advice on how to market yourself as a tiler, information on business start-up, business cards, tax, CSCS cards, and a lot more.

To find out more about this course and to book your place if you decide it is the right one for you, please call 01274682199 today. As we all look for new beginnings in our lives after the COVID-19 pandemic, it could be one of the best decisions you ever make for your employability, earnings and lifestyle.

What’s the difference between our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plumbing courses?

It’s hardly surprising that so many people are drawn to the idea of becoming a plumber, especially at times of economic uncertainty like the present. But if you’re seeking the right intensive plumbing course in the UK, you may understandably become a little confused by the various options offered by training providers like YTA.

So, let’s look specifically at our five-day and 10-day courses that will give you a Level 1 plumbing qualification, the Level 1 Award in Plumbing Operations. How do they differ?

A strong platform for a rewarding plumbing career

The short answer to the above question is that the 10-day course effectively constitutes an extended version of the five-day course. That means both courses will train and assess you on two units – ‘Introduction to plumbing work’ and ‘Carrying out plumbing operations’ – and both enable you to earn a qualification accredited by Ascentis Awarding Organisation.

No less importantly, both of these courses provide a sturdy foundation for future professional success as a plumber. You don’t need any previous experience to take on either route, and once you’ve completed your chosen intensive plumbing course in the UK, you should possess the confidence and skills needed to develop a plumbing career.

Build your capabilities as a plumber at our trusted training centre

The five-day course – which is, of course, the same as the first five days of the 10-day course – will see you taking on such tasks as working with and using copper pipe and fixings, planning and installing a bathroom, fault finding, installing a small two-radiator system, and plumbing up a kitchen sink.

And that’s just a quick summary of some of the interesting plumbing challenges that will await you over the five days, as the instructor also explains how to tackle various problems with real-life solutions. You’ll also find out about pricing jobs and business start-up.

Stay with us for a second week on our 10-day course, though, and you’ll get to expand on what you learned during the first week. You will be given the opportunity, for example, to complete the fitting of a domestic hot water storage system, and will also learn more about bathroom plumbing, rainwater guttering, hoppers and drainage.

You can discover more about just how much an intensive plumbing course in the UK can cover by perusing our various online course pages. Remember that regardless of which course you enrol on, you’ll also become well-versed in plumbing ‘tricks of the trade’, as well as in full measuring and in-depth quoting based on full-size kitchens and bathrooms.

Call 01274 682199 or 07400 922788, or email info@ytatraining.com, and we’ll be pleased to advise you on your options, so that you can be sure of getting your new life as a plumber off to the strongest start.

I'll be honest when I saw the advertisement and checked the place on google, I said another course to waste time, and contrary to having judged the place, the course was above my expectations, very practical, excellent teaching, I recommend 100 % five stars.

As an unskilled landlord I felt a little exposed due to the lack of plumbers out there doing small jobs, leaking sinks, new toilet inlets etc etc. I contacted YTA to bridge that gap a bit. After 5 days, I actually feel far more comfortable and I am actually going to tackle installing a bathroom. Very good, hands on training. Can be difficult to hear whats going on at times due to all trade training going on in the same room but I would definitely recommend them. I am actually going to do joinery, kitchen fitting and plastering too within the next 12 months.

Just finished the 5 day kitchen fitting course with Paul. I had very limited skills prior to this but have learnt loads and now feel totally competent to fully fit out my mums kitchen and utility room myself. Great course with very experienced tutor. Highly recommended. I'm going to do the plumbing course next. Thanks Paul and YTA.

Can't rate this place enough. I've done plumbing, plastering, and am about to finish a joinery course. The instructors are all very skilled in their respective trades and the class sizes are small enough that you have time to go at your own pace and really learn. All the instructors are very approachable and happy to answer questions, however stupid I thought they might sound. If you're considering a course here my advice is to do it. I started with virtually no practical skill at all and after each course I'm now confident that I can put these skills to good use in my house, and what I could produce by the end of each course is much better than what I've seen some tradesmen produce. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you'll learn at this place, even with no prior experience.

Finished my 10 day tiling course with Gary and it was superb.Considering I'd never laid a tile prior to starting the course and then to be tiling by 10am the morning is amazing and it's a credit to him, he has confidence in the people he's training even if they don't haha. Without thinking you just do it, he guides you along swimmingly.Gary, without saying it, recognises your pace and how confident or not you are and he goes with YOUR flow which I feel is correct.

I attended a 5 day plastering course .All the instructors are great and easy to get on with. Dave the plastering instructor is a top lad .Nothing to much trouble and really helpful.I’ve already started on my own house and the course definitely gave me the basics I needed to point me in the right direction.I would recommend Dave and all the staff to anyone thinking about having a go.I’m 61 served my time as a bricklayer straight from school but I wish I’d given plastering a shot years ago.Best thing I’ve done in a long time. Also ‘Bradford Digs’ great little place to stay.Cheers to all…Andy.
