Carpentry course

21st April 2021 By Liz Spider

Undertake our one-day EWPA, and you could soon be a much more employable carpenter

Every year, of course, is an opportunity for new beginnings, but it’s also undeniable that 2021 began in an especially grim way for many of us. The combination of a fresh coronavirus lockdown and the long and dark nights of January and February was not how most of us would have wished to start the year.

Now, though, there is hope: the spring is here, the skies are lighter for longer, and COVID-19 cases aren’t as high as they were. You might, then, be feeling slightly more inclined right now to investigate ways of upgrading your career, such as our own carpentry & joinery NVQ Level 2 courses here at YTA.

In this particular blog post, we’re not focusing on a ‘course’ as such, but instead on an assessment route for those who already possess considerable carpentry experience.

What we’re referring to, is the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA). This is an option for joiners who have spent five or more years in this profession, and – when passed – results in the award of an NVQ Level 2 carpentry diploma.

Why would you wish to take on this assessment route?

If you are already an experienced tradesperson, it won’t necessarily make much sense for you to take on a complete training course, just to obtain your NVQ Level 2 qualification in your chosen trade. Indeed, you may have the required skills and knowledge already – in which case, the EWPA route gives you the perfect opportunity to demonstrate them, and enhance your longer-term career prospects in the process.

This is a fast-track assessment route, only typically taking about one day – or two days, if needed – at our Yorkshire training and assessment centre.

The qualification that those satisfying the EWPA requirements then receive – the Cskills Awards NVQ Level 2 Carpentry Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) – is the one required in order to attain the blue skilled worker CSCS card. That card, in turn, is the one that will enable you to gain site work as a skilled carpenter.

A straightforward process that could end with an invaluable qualification

In these times of prospective economic recovery, it’s well worth doing everything you can to boost your employability as a tradesperson. Undertaking our carpentry EWPA could be the ideal way to do exactly that, as long as your existing experience and knowledge satisfy the requirements.

To learn more about the carpentry EWPA, including the units included in it and the witness testimonies, practical assessment, professional discussion and direct questioning required for you to pass it, simply visit our relevant course page on our website.

Then, call YTA on 01274 682199, for an initial discussion with us about the process. If, as a result of this discussion, the EWPA route seems like it could be suitable for you, we’ll put you in touch with our NVQ carpentry assessor, who will be able to complete a ‘skills scan’ and help ensure you are making the right decision in pursuing the EWPA.

You’ll be in extremely safe hands when you choose to advance your career as a carpenter with the help of YTA, which is one of the UK’s most trusted providers of carpentry & joinery NVQ Level 2 courses!

”Best Course I’ve Ever Done!” New 5 Star YTA Review – Azher Ashraf – Scotland

“The best training school I’ve ever been to!” says Azher Ashraf from Scotland after completing multiple courses at YTA.

Azher left a fantastic 5 star YTA review following the completion of our plumbing, carpentry & joinery courses with more courses already booked in for the coming months!

The best training school I’ve ever been to. Travelled from Scotland and its the best course I’ve ever done. Paul the plumbing teacher was outstanding 10-10 for the help and knowledge. Dave in the tiling sector and Lawrence in joinery section were really good. Helped whenever asked this Is the best company in the UK. All hands on from the word go already booked on a kitchen course and joinery. They helped my self in every possible. Keep up the great work guys.

Thank you Azher for a great 5 star YTA review.

The 5 day plumbing course is suitable for total beginners with no previous experience or tradespersons such as tilers, plasterers, joiners, kitchen fitters etc who wish to undertake plumbing tasks from changing taps, plumbing in a kitchen sink including a washing machine to full bathroom replacements including fitting of radiators in order to gain more work and income. In the current climate the tradesperson who can do the whole job to a customer tends to gets the more jobs leaving the customer without the headache of finding multiple trades to complete a home project.

This plumbing course is aimed to give you enough skills to develop your expertise to a career in plumbing as many of our former plumbing candidates have or just to give you the confidence to take on plumbing projects around the house however small or large.

Our 5 day plumbing course will provide you with a great insight and understanding of the plumbing trade whether you are a total beginner or have some previous plumbing experience.

This 5 day intensive carpentry and joinery course is ideal if you are wanting to start a career in carpentry and eventually move on to gain your NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry. No previous experience in carpentry is necessary. We also offer a 10 day course and 10 day level 1 course in carpentry & joinery.

Our one-day carpentry EWPA route could significantly advance your career

It’s often said that overnight success requires years of hard work, and if anyone is well-placed to appreciate that, it’s our team here at YTA!

After all, as a highly respected NOCN Cskills-approved construction training centre in Yorkshire, we have seen so many students complete our courses and start successful careers – and for that matter, take existing careers to the next level.

This brings us neatly onto the subject of our carpentry & joinery NVQ Level 2 courses – and more specifically, the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) option that we present to those wishing to attain the Cskills Awards NVQ Level 2 Carpentry Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) – Site Carpentry QUA900.

This qualification is an especially significant one because it’s the one that, if you are a joiner, will allow you to secure the blue skilled worker CSCS card, so that you can actually work as a skilled professional on-site.

And with us, you could attain this invaluable diploma in just a day… provided that you already have five or more years’ carpentry experience.

You could be just one practical assessment away from this great qualification

The principle behind the EWPA route – which we also offer for wall and floor tilers, bricklayers and plasterers – is that if you already have the necessary knowledge and skills to do the job, you should hardly need to go through a longer course, just to gain the qualification required to do that job.

Instead, the EWPA uses a combination of practical assessment, professional discussion and witness testimonies to ascertain that your skills and knowledge are at a level meriting this important qualification.

The site carpentry NVQ itself includes three essential units covering general workplace safety, efficient work practices, and the movement and handling of resources.

But you can also support your effort to gain the diploma by adding three optional units from a range of five. These include in relation to the installation of first fixing and second fixing components, the erection of structural carcassing components, the maintenance of non-structural carpentry work, and the setup and use of transportable cutting and shaping machines.

Reach out to our skilled and seasoned professionals today

If the carpentry EWPA sounds like the right step to take for your career, why not get in touch with the YTA team now? We’ll be able to explain the process to you and ask you about your past carpentry experience; bear in mind that as well as the aforementioned five years’ experience, you’ll need to be knowledgeable in all of the essential NVQ units to gain the qualification.

After your initial enquiry, we can put you in touch with our NVQ carpentry assessor, who will be able to conduct a ‘skills scan’ to determine your suitability for the EWPA.

As renowned and experienced providers of carpentry & joinery NVQ Level 2 courses, we can give you the benefit of the right training routes for your own career. Simply call us now on 01274 682199 or 07400922788, or email info@ytatraining.com for further information and guidance.

The EWPA route to a Level 2 carpentry qualification couldn’t be quicker or simpler!

When you’re an already-experienced tradesperson who is ambitious to move onto the next rung of the career ladder and gain qualifications that will help you to better market your services and expertise to potential employers and clients, you might well find yourself comparing quite a lot of construction training centres. No less important than the training centre that you choose, however, is the actual route you take to acquire a relevant qualification.

You may not have been aware, for example, that if you already possess at least five years’ experience in joinery, you don’t need to embark on a complete course in order to attain the qualification that will give you a blue skilled worker CSCS card.

Instead, you can simply take advantage of our fast-track assessment route here at YTA, known as the Experienced Worker Practical Assessment, or EWPA.

So, what’s involved if you ‘go EWPA’?

It’s all very straightforward; if you’re prepared to arrive at our construction training centre in Bradford for 7:30am on the date you book with us, we’ll only need one day of your time in order to complete the EWPA assessment for you. Provided that you pass, you will be awarded the Cskills Awards Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) – Site Carpentry QUA900.

The idea is that you will be able to obtain this qualification by demonstrating to us the skills and knowledge you have already. You simply need to get in touch with YTA and we will explain the process to you, before passing your details to our NVQ carpentry assessor, so that they can then call you and complete a ‘skills scan’. This will help them to determine whether you have a strong chance of achieving the NVQ through the EWPA process.

Then, as long as you are happy to proceed and the NVQ assessor is confident that your ability and experience levels will enable you to complete the assessment successfully, the EWPA itself can be booked.

Through a combination of witness testimonies, practical assessment, professional discussion and direct questioning, you could soon be well on the way to completing the various units that make up the carpentry NVQ. These units cover such key aspects as general workplace safety, efficient work practices and the movement and handling of resources, while three optional units can also be chosen to support your efforts to obtain the NVQ.

We did tell you it wasn’t too complicated…

All of the above really isn’t too much to work through if you wish to move up to the next level in your carpentry career, especially when you don’t even need to devote all that much time to the completion of an EWPA!

To learn more about this particular route to an NVQ Level 2 qualification or any of our other services as one of the UK’s most trusted accredited construction training centres, simply email the YTA team today, or give us a call on 01274 682199 or 07400922788.
