Plastering course

14th December 2021 By Liz Spider

Could 2022 be the year you start an exciting new plastering career?

Here at YTA, we can’t quite comprehend that it’s very nearly a New Year – 2021 just seems to have absolutely rushed by. However, we also realise that this has been far from the case for everyone. Indeed, the events of the past year may have even convinced you to take a whole new career direction, which – for many of our students – means becoming a qualified plasterer.

You only need to look at our broader selection of plastering courses to get a sense of the training options that you could take advantage of from us. For this particular blog post, however, we would like to focus specifically on the Cskills 10-day accredited plastering course that could earn you a ‘Skills for Plastering’ unit accreditation certificate.

Why might you be interested in this plastering course?

Part of your reason for enquiring about this course is likely to be the sheer reputability of NOCN Cskills (Construction Skills), this being the awarding body for construction NVQs.

Much more important, however, is what achieving this unit certificate would then enable you to do professionally. We receive queries about this course from a wide range of people, including those who have never previously learned a trade, as well as active tradespeople who seek to use the course as a means of expanding their skillset. You might even simply be a DIY enthusiast, in which case, yes, this course can be for you, too!

If you do satisfy the requirements for the certificate as a result of undertaking this intensive hands-on course, you will be able to quickly proceed to a plastering career, and perhaps eventually upgrade to a Level 2 NVQ plastering diploma.

10 days of wide-ranging training in plastering

Over the 10 days of this accredited plastering course – and if you struggle to commit to this much time at once, it is worth bearing in mind that we also offer a five-day course that is effectively the same as the first week of this one – you will cover considerable ground in relation to this trade.

Some of the things you will learn about – such as full measuring and in-depth quoting, insurance, tax and starting up in business – are the same as those covered on every YTA course. But alongside this, you will also be trained in such tasks as skimming to plasterboard, plastering to ceilings, repairing ceilings, bonding, and so much more.

You will be given plastering tools to use during the course, as well as your own full-size training bay to work in, with no need to share a bay with anyone else. Indeed, we also maintain a low student-to-trainer ratio, to help ensure you get the expert attention you need throughout the course.

It’s all designed this way to make sure that once you have successfully completed the 10 days of training, you will be in a position to take on the majority of plastering and rendering jobs you could be conceivably required to do in your subsequent career.

Get in touch now for all the advice and information you need

With so many plastering courses and other options for construction training and assessment available at YTA, we can understand if you require a bit more guidance to help you be confident that you have found the right route for you.

So, please do not hesitate to enquire to us today for further details or to book your place on a course, whether by phone or email.

Five or 10 days is all you might need to become a skilled and confident plasterer

As the UK economy continues its steady comeback from the lows of the coronavirus crisis, it’s fair to say that key construction skills like plastering will hardly become less important any time soon.

This helps explain our own wide range of highly regarded intensive plastering courses in the UK, including both five-day and 10-day options for those interested in working towards an NVQ Level 1 qualification.

What’s the big difference between our Level 1 five-day and 10-day courses?

While it’s far from the only qualification that aspiring plasterers might look to acquire, the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Plastering can provide a very strong foundation for subsequent success in this in-demand field.

You might have some experience in another trade, and wish to enhance your skill-set by taking on a course centred on plastering. Or maybe you’re a complete beginner? Regardless, taking on a five-day or 10-day Level 1 NVQ course at YTA’s West Yorkshire training centre could be one of the wisest decisions you ever make for your career.

The five-day course is effectively the first week of the 10-day course, and is priced accordingly. Completing and passing the five-day course will give you a NOCN Cskills Level 1 Plastering Walls unit accreditation. If, then, you would like to gain the full Level 1 Certificate in Plastering in one go, it’s the 10-day course that you will need to enrol on.

Put yourself to the test – and bolster your capability and employability

Whichever course of these two you commit to, we will give you a set of plastering tools to use during the course, and your own full-size plastering training bay to learn your craft in. Plus, with only five plastering training bays being used, you can be sure of benefitting from the high level of tuition and attention made possible by a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Students of our five-day course will have plenty of opportunity to learn the basic technique of plastering, in addition to over-skimming and repairing plastering. They will also get to grips with feathering in and board fixing.

These elements will also be covered if you enrol on our full 10-day course, but in the second week, you’ll also get to tackle the plastering of a full wall and ceilings as a complete project. We’ll also teach you more advanced techniques, including the plastering of arches and curves. In addition, as one of our students, you’ll learn how to work with the increasingly popular K-Rend onto block work.

You’ll cover an awful lot of ground on one of our intensive plastering courses in the UK – such vital subjects as health and safety, and starting up in business also being covered – and when you come out of it, you’ll possess a clear practical and theoretical understanding of plastering.

If, then, you want to put a platform in place for sustained success as a plasterer, you’ll struggle to find a better one than one of these Level 1 courses! If you have any further questions about what’s involved before booking your place, don’t hesitate to get in touch directly with the YTA team today.

Becoming a qualified plasterer can be a faster process than you might think!

Have you ever considered training to become a plasterer? If so, you have good reasons for that. Like the other key trades, plastering offers a high level of job security, these skills having been in demand pretty much since the year dot.

Getting into plastering also offers interesting opportunities for progression, including into supervisory and site management roles – and as a more experienced plasterer, you could eventually be earning as much as £30,000 a year.

It’s one thing to choose to become a plasterer, however, and it’s an entirely different thing to choose the right route to taking on this trade. Sure enough, here at YTA, we offer both five-day and 10-day Level 1 plastering courses that could give you the best possible platform for success in this profession.

How do our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plastering courses differ?

Both of these intensive courses are a popular choice among not only complete beginners who might be looking to switch into plastering from a different career, but also existing tradespersons interested in expanding their skill-set, and even DIY enthusiasts.

The key difference between the five-day and 10-day courses, however – besides the former obviously not covering as much ground as the latter – is the fact that the former leads to a unit accreditation certificate, while the latter allows you to achieve a full qualification.

That qualification in question is the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Plastering. To earn it, you will need to be trained and assessed in five units, covering health and safety in construction trades, effective communication in construction trades, and the plastering of corners, walls and ceilings.

By contrast, the five-day course will simply involve you being assessed for the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Plastering Walls unit accreditation. So, before committing to any particular plastering course, it’s important to know what to expect, and to consider whether this will be the right choice for your circumstances and aspirations.

But these Level 1 training courses in plastering also have a lot in common

Whatever Level 1 route you select as a would-be plasterer attending our accredited West Yorkshire training centre, you can expect to gain invaluable competence and experience in this trade that looks set to continue being in demand long after the pandemic.

We will give you a set of plastering tools to use during the course, and you will have your own full-size training bay to work in, so you won’t need to worry about sharing a bay. We also limit the number of plastering training bays to five, so that the student to teacher/trainer ratio is kept low – just the thing for ensuring you receive the attention and teaching you need.

Oh, and don’t forget that both of these Level 1 plastering courses will cover a wide range of other key aspects of the job, including health and safety, business start-up, full measuring and in-depth quoting, marketing techniques, course progression opportunities, and so much more.

What are you waiting for? Make 2021 the year you take that chance!

Feel free to click through to the relevant course pages on our website to discover more about the five-day and 10-day Level 1 plastering courses we offer – and if you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

It’s been a tough past 12 months for all of us, but now is the time to look with renewed optimism to the future. If you’ve been wondering whether 2021 is the year you should make that dream of a rewarding new career real, we’re confident that you won’t regret doing your training with YTA.

Join us for five or 10 days to start – or upgrade – your plastering career

If you’re reading this, you’ll probably be aware of at least some of the very strong attractions of becoming a plasterer, including the evergreen demand for plastering skills that helps to make it one of the most secure jobs of all. Here at YTA, we’re delighted to be continuing to play a major role in the training of the nation’s plasterers, through our various acclaimed plastering courses.

What we’d like to focus on in this particular blog post, however, are our five-day and 10-day Level 1 plastering courses.

These are courses that you can embark on even if you’re a complete beginner. We do, though, also receive a lot of enquiries from DIY enthusiasts interested in expanding their skills for that big project, as well as from experienced tradespeople who wish to boost their own skill set and marketability.

How do the five-day and 10-day plastering courses differ?

While both of these courses introduce the student to the fundamental procedures of plastering walls and ceilings, it is important to appreciate that the five-day course is a unit accreditation certificate.

If, therefore, you wish to obtain the full NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Plastering, you will need to complete the 10-day course, which consists of five assessments covering health and safety in construction trades, effective communication in construction trades, and the plastering of corners, walls and ceilings.

The 10-day course is, in effect, the five-day course with an extra week added. The additional days will give you the opportunity to tackle the plastering of a full wall and ceiling as a complete project, rather than as separate assignments, which is the format used in the first week.

You’ll cover serious ground (well, wall and ceilings) in a short space of time

For those seeking plastering courses that would give them the clear practical and theoretical understanding of plastering necessary to go into further training or set up as a plasterer, our Level 1 courses could be just the thing.

In next to no time, you’ll get to grips with everything from plastering health and safety, business setup, skimming and repair, right through to the setting of finishing beads, Monocouche render (K REND) and full measuring and in-depth quoting.

Whatever your ambitions may be in plastering, then, YTA’s plastering courses could be the ideal platform for your success. Don’t hesitate to contact us directly for a chat about these or any of our other highly rated plastering courses, in the knowledge that we can help you to take that great leap into what may be a whole new career.

I'll be honest when I saw the advertisement and checked the place on google, I said another course to waste time, and contrary to having judged the place, the course was above my expectations, very practical, excellent teaching, I recommend 100 % five stars.

As an unskilled landlord I felt a little exposed due to the lack of plumbers out there doing small jobs, leaking sinks, new toilet inlets etc etc. I contacted YTA to bridge that gap a bit. After 5 days, I actually feel far more comfortable and I am actually going to tackle installing a bathroom. Very good, hands on training. Can be difficult to hear whats going on at times due to all trade training going on in the same room but I would definitely recommend them. I am actually going to do joinery, kitchen fitting and plastering too within the next 12 months.

Just finished the 5 day kitchen fitting course with Paul. I had very limited skills prior to this but have learnt loads and now feel totally competent to fully fit out my mums kitchen and utility room myself. Great course with very experienced tutor. Highly recommended. I'm going to do the plumbing course next. Thanks Paul and YTA.

Can't rate this place enough. I've done plumbing, plastering, and am about to finish a joinery course. The instructors are all very skilled in their respective trades and the class sizes are small enough that you have time to go at your own pace and really learn. All the instructors are very approachable and happy to answer questions, however stupid I thought they might sound. If you're considering a course here my advice is to do it. I started with virtually no practical skill at all and after each course I'm now confident that I can put these skills to good use in my house, and what I could produce by the end of each course is much better than what I've seen some tradesmen produce. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you'll learn at this place, even with no prior experience.

Finished my 10 day tiling course with Gary and it was superb.Considering I'd never laid a tile prior to starting the course and then to be tiling by 10am the morning is amazing and it's a credit to him, he has confidence in the people he's training even if they don't haha. Without thinking you just do it, he guides you along swimmingly.Gary, without saying it, recognises your pace and how confident or not you are and he goes with YOUR flow which I feel is correct.

I attended a 5 day plastering course .All the instructors are great and easy to get on with. Dave the plastering instructor is a top lad .Nothing to much trouble and really helpful.I’ve already started on my own house and the course definitely gave me the basics I needed to point me in the right direction.I would recommend Dave and all the staff to anyone thinking about having a go.I’m 61 served my time as a bricklayer straight from school but I wish I’d given plastering a shot years ago.Best thing I’ve done in a long time. Also ‘Bradford Digs’ great little place to stay.Cheers to all…Andy.
