COVID-19

31st October 2020 By Graham Binns

YTA To Remain Open As Education Setting

Update following the Prime Ministers briefing on 31.10.2020 regarding the 2nd lockdown restrictions from 5.11.2020.

  • YTA will remain open and adhere to the government guidance and the below rules and regulations within the training centre.
  • YTA is a private limited company but offers nationally recognised qualifications and is a government registered UK learner provider (see here) YTA UKRPN number: 10056331. Under the 2nd lockdown rules we will remain open as an education setting.
  • Government guidance (see here) is that travel is permitted for education and deemed essential travel.

Further details can be found on the YTA COVID-19 PAGE.

YTA is open 8:30am to 5pm as usual

***** All courses are now up running *****

We are open and our top priority is keeping staff and students safe. Our training centre & office is open 8:30am to 5pm Monday – Friday. Please call our office on 01274682199.

We have the following rules & regulations in place to help keep everyone safe:

  • 2m floor indicators around the centre
  • track and trace signage / QR code as you enter the building.
  • hand sanitiser wall mounted dispensers around the training centre, office and the entrance/ exit to the building
  • hand wash facilities and disposable latex gloves provided throughout the centre as usual.
  • some training bays are only half height so we have built clear perspex screens to a suitable height so once students are in their bays they can maintain social distance by way of a barrier/ screen/ wall.
  • depending on students numbers, break times may be staggered and we may not be able to accommodate every student a place to eat their lunch inside our centre whilst also maintaining 2m distances at all times. We will ask students to eat their lunch in their car/ van whilst we give students attending via public transport priority seating inside the building for their lunch
  • we will limit the amount of tool sharing as much as possible. Everyone will be provided with a set of tools to use for the duration of their course but some tools will need to be shared such as large tiles cutters, mixing drills and pressure testers. Wearing gloves whilst using these will be advised or use the hand sanitiser.
  • wearing a face-mask inside the building will be mandatory when a 2m social distance can not be maintained, for example:

– during some types of training such as 1 to 1 training

– small group lectures where the group may be stood near each other

– whilst walking through areas narrower than 2m where other students or staff may also walkthrough or past

This is to help keep everybody safe. The face-mask provided will be free of charge and a new one will be provided each day if required, this way everyone is able to wear a regulated good quality face-mask.

We are not sure how long we will need these rules and procedures in place but I feel it is a good way of trying to keep everybody safe. If you would like to cancel your course then we can refund your course fee or re-schedule for a time when the above rules can be relaxed. We will expect all students and staff to adhere to the above measures. Safety in these unprecedented times is our top priority.

It will feel a little different at first whilst we all get used to the new social distancing measures and how we can practice this in a construction training centre but please bear with us as we are all new to this way of working/ teaching/ assessing.

Thank you. Stay safe.

First week back!

It’s our first week back following lockdown and we are glad to report that our new working practices and social distancing is going really well. Plumbing and tiling courses were our first courses back training and we asked several students what they thought of our new COVID-19 safe set up to maintain safe working / training practices and all feedback was excellent and reassuring.

Here are a few photos form the first week back during the first couple of days.

Next week the plastering courses will start and followed by the carpentry courses. By the end of June we will be fully up and running with a safe phased return to training.

We are ready to open!

We have been working extremely hard over the past few weeks to prepare for re-opening following the lockdown and we are now ready to open for YTA courses on Monday 1st June.

Please take a look at the gallery below to see what we have put in place:

  • Hand sanitiser stations in each department,
  • Yellow dots on the floor 2m apart,
  • Perspex between training bays where possible
  • Face-masks to be handed out

We have some ground rules for attending which can be found on our COVID-19 page which must be followed to help keep all staff and students safe.

We are not sure how long we will need these rules and procedures in place but I feel it is a good way of trying to keep everybody safe.

Three successful Carpentry NVQ’s today

We had three experienced carpenters successfully complete their Site Carpentry NVQ‘s today at YTA and we are happy to say that they all passed the 6 hour practical assessment. The Site Carpentry NVQ level 2 Diploma is gained through the EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) if you have a minimum of 5 years experience working as Site Carpenter. We are so glad to say that we are off to a flying start following the lockdown period and all three achieved the 1 day NVQ level 2 practical assessment.

We have some new working practices in place which can be found on our COVID-19 PAGE and all went to plan, face-masks provided, social distancing and hand sanitiser stations around the centre all making the assessment process safe.

Are you an experienced Carpenter / Joiner of 5 or more years? then you can spend 1 day at our NOCN Cskills approved NVQ Centre in Yorkshire completing the wood occupations site carpentry NVQ level 2 EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment). We run this assessment on Saturday’s 7:30am until approx 4pm depending on your time. We run the assessment at our training centre in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The 1 day NVQ level 2 through EWPA costs £900 including vat, (£750 excl vat).

Successful Carpentry NVQ

How do we assess during COVID-19 and keep social distancing

We have a very large assessment centre (6500 sq foot) and the EWPA requires the candidate to work on their own in a dedicated assessment area for an allocated amount of time to complete the practical assessment (between 6 and 9 hours depending on which trade). We can easily distance a maximum of 3 assessment areas within the centre 6m apart from each other. The assessor will assess at distance and when required at the end of the assessment, ask you to stand to one side so he can measure and mark your practical assessment.  So the carpentry NVQ level 2 is still running but with no more than 3 candidates per time in the building.

We really can get you your NVQ quickly

What if you need to be earning a wage again even before you’ve completed our carpentry EWPA route? Well, that’s not too much of a drama, either – you simply need to first secure your place and pay your deposit, so that we can get you registered. This will enable you to apply for and gain a temporary card lasting for a maximum of six months until you have completed the EWPA.

Don’t wait any longer to email the YTA team at info@ytatraining.com during COVID-19 lockdown and on 01274 682199, to book your place or to discuss how we can best serve your construction training / assessment requirements. YTA have been delivering successful Carpentry NVQ’s to experienced carpenters for 14 years now.

We are preparing to re-open

Covid-19 Important Update 14.5.2020

We are preparing to re-open but our top priority is keeping staff and students safe.

The YTA office will re-open on Monday 18th May and we will be actively contacting students whose courses have been affected over the past several weeks of closure due to coronavirus. We will be available to not only re-schedule courses but also take new course bookings. The office will be open 9am to 4:30pm. If you would rather call us then please do so on 01274682199.

Our plan is to start running the majority of our courses on Monday 1st June onwards.

What we will be doing in preparation to opening for students on 1st June is making sure we have the following in place:

  • 2m floor indicators around the centre where possible

I'll be honest when I saw the advertisement and checked the place on google, I said another course to waste time, and contrary to having judged the place, the course was above my expectations, very practical, excellent teaching, I recommend 100 % five stars.

As an unskilled landlord I felt a little exposed due to the lack of plumbers out there doing small jobs, leaking sinks, new toilet inlets etc etc. I contacted YTA to bridge that gap a bit. After 5 days, I actually feel far more comfortable and I am actually going to tackle installing a bathroom. Very good, hands on training. Can be difficult to hear whats going on at times due to all trade training going on in the same room but I would definitely recommend them. I am actually going to do joinery, kitchen fitting and plastering too within the next 12 months.

Just finished the 5 day kitchen fitting course with Paul. I had very limited skills prior to this but have learnt loads and now feel totally competent to fully fit out my mums kitchen and utility room myself. Great course with very experienced tutor. Highly recommended. I'm going to do the plumbing course next. Thanks Paul and YTA.

Can't rate this place enough. I've done plumbing, plastering, and am about to finish a joinery course. The instructors are all very skilled in their respective trades and the class sizes are small enough that you have time to go at your own pace and really learn. All the instructors are very approachable and happy to answer questions, however stupid I thought they might sound. If you're considering a course here my advice is to do it. I started with virtually no practical skill at all and after each course I'm now confident that I can put these skills to good use in my house, and what I could produce by the end of each course is much better than what I've seen some tradesmen produce. You'll be pleasantly surprised by how much you'll learn at this place, even with no prior experience.

Finished my 10 day tiling course with Gary and it was superb.Considering I'd never laid a tile prior to starting the course and then to be tiling by 10am the morning is amazing and it's a credit to him, he has confidence in the people he's training even if they don't haha. Without thinking you just do it, he guides you along swimmingly.Gary, without saying it, recognises your pace and how confident or not you are and he goes with YOUR flow which I feel is correct.

I attended a 5 day plastering course .All the instructors are great and easy to get on with. Dave the plastering instructor is a top lad .Nothing to much trouble and really helpful.I’ve already started on my own house and the course definitely gave me the basics I needed to point me in the right direction.I would recommend Dave and all the staff to anyone thinking about having a go.I’m 61 served my time as a bricklayer straight from school but I wish I’d given plastering a shot years ago.Best thing I’ve done in a long time. Also ‘Bradford Digs’ great little place to stay.Cheers to all…Andy.
