So far this December we have been teaching bricklaying, plumbing, tiling and plastering. We start again on Monday morning swapping bricklaying for carpentry and joinery. We only have 3 places remaining this year so if you fancy jumping on a last minute course give the centre a call  Monday morning. Below are a selection of photos taken over the past week and a half.

On the bricklaying course you will learn trowel skills and build a half brick wall and a block wall. Advanced bricklaying techniques such as arches and practice on a range of different brickwork bonds such as garden wall bonds are also covered. The plastering course will cover boarding up of walls and ceilings, skimming over existing plaster and also onto plaster board. You wall also plasterboard onto block work wall using board fix ‘dot and dab’ plus backing plaster method. We will also repair holes in walls and learn how to patch repair plasterwork and feather in large areas.

The plumbing course briefly covers plumbing in bathrooms, kitchens and radiators systems as well as fault finding and repair from toilet cisterns to central heating.

The tiling course starts off with you tiling a basic kitchen, then around a window half height with trims to be mitred. Then moving onto tiling a bathrooms shower area above a bath and then tiling a floor with obstacles such as a pedestal to cut tiles around along with a boxing in and doorway architraves.

All our courses are taught by experienced and qualified ex tradesmen with only low students numbers per teacher ratio. YTA is based in Bradford, West Yorkshire and is easily accessible from the M62 motorway. A couple more 5 star reviews this week! Two recent reviews following the completion of our 5 day level 1 intensive plumbing course from two candidates. One review was from a builder with 30 years building industry experience.

I did the 5 day level 1 plumbing course, I’ve been in the building industry for over 30 years and never wanted to tackle anything that involved water.I did the course purely so I could carry out jobs and repairs at home. it was a great week, Lyndon was a great tutor and there was a great group of lads on the course.I learnt loads and really enjoyed the hands on practical work, you had all the tools, equipment and materials to carry out every job that was set out. The course gave me the skills and confidence to carry out a handful of jobs that I had at home which I started the Saturday after the course.All jobs done brilliantly so I’m really happy with what I’ve learned . I will be undertaking another course next year.

 

The 5 day plumbing course was a very good course. Lots of practical tasks and all the staff are very approachable and will help you out with any issues that they can help you with.

5 Star YTA Reviews keep coming in from our 5 day intensive plumbing course with 3 brilliant reviews left recently from the course students. The YTA plumbing courses are very hands on and aimed at you leaving the course with the skills and knowledge to start completing plumbing projects. Some students leave and only want to tackle the smaller jobs to start with such as replacing a tap washer, fixing a leaky pipe or trap but others leave and jump straight into replacing bathroom suites and radiator systems. Many of our students go on to start their own plumbing businesses and then return to add more skills to their portfolio such as tiling, plastering and joinery courses to help bolster their earning potential.

I would highly recommend the courses at YTA training. I did the plumbing course and it was brilliant. I also had a look round at what the others were getting upto and all looked really impressive. The other lads said how good their courses were. I will return back to do other courses as you learn so much and it’s all hands on ( no classroom work ). I attended the course as a novice, now I feel confident to tackle most plumbing jobs. The course is very relaxed and well presented. There are no restrictions on supplies if you make a mistake go and help yourself to the pipe and connectors. They do not try and sell any tools but will advise on the best tools to buy. I received my certificate at the end of the course and the offer of any phone advise should I need any help on a job, what more do you want. Excellent.

 

The plumbing course runs most weeks as it is one of our most popular courses. Prices start at £90 for a 1 day plumbing taster course where you can learn how to solder or even plumb in a kitchen sink. The 5 and 10 day courses go into more detail and you will be installing bathrooms and radiator systems. We also offer a nationally accredited level 1 plumbing qualification which can help gain employment following albeit most students prefer to start working as a self employed plumber. We can set you well on your way to becoming a successful kitchen fitter

While the job of a kitchen fitter may seem self-evident – to install kitchens – there are many complexities around this. If you are thinking of entering the profession, it is therefore important to consider whether you are a suitable person for this kind of role, as well as what is involved in training to become a kitchen fitter and the rewards that you can expect.

What can you expect to do in a kitchen fitting career?  

Kitchen fitters do their work mainly in private homes, but also in any other location where a kitchen may be needed, such as an office or other workplace.

The process of installing a kitchen tends to include the dismantling and removal of the old kitchen, followed by the installation of the new units, worktops and sink. On any one day, your duties as a kitchen fitter are likely to include the use of a range of hand and power tools, as well as measuring out work areas, marking the location of pipes and cables and – of course – the actual fitting of units and appliances.

Is it a lucrative profession?

A salary of between £13,500 and £16,000 is typical for someone just starting out as a professional kitchen fitter. This can rise to between £17,000 and £24,000 for those of an intermediate level of experience, while the most seasoned fitters can typically command as high as £35,000 a year.

You need certain characteristics to excel as a kitchen fitter

While this profession isn’t associated with any set route to employment, with many people simply taking on small jobs first and gradually expanding their skills from there, it is nonetheless crucial to think carefully about whether this is the right line of work for you.

There is no denying, for example, the highly physical nature of the work, so being strong and able to cope with it all is vital. It’s also essential to have a good problem-solving head and a calm temperament, as it’s not very often that a kitchen is fitted with no issues at all. For instance, it might be the case that a given design doesn’t fit into the space where it needs to fit, with situations like this requiring you to come up with solutions ‘on the hoof’.

Such a life changing place I’ve done the joinery, plumbing, plastering and tiling courses and I wish I’d have done them years ago it really has changed everything business has never been better. Graham, Dave and Lawrence are excellent instructors they take the time to properly show and explain everything it’s not rushed like other places a very relaxed place to freshen up existing skills or learn new ones I really do recommend YTA to anyone thanks fellas.
