Tiling NVQ

27th April 2021 By Liz Spider

Why not spend 10 days with us becoming a Level 1-qualified tiler?

There are many good reasons to consider taking on an advanced tiling course in the UK. One of those is naturally the strong appeal of tiling as a career, whether you are an existing tradesperson who would like to add tiling to your skill-set, or a complete newcomer to learning a trade. Nor can one entirely ignore the financial rewards, with experienced tilers potentially earning as much as £32,000 a year.

But if this is the professional path that you would like to embark on, what training options should you look at? One possibility we would suggest you seriously consider, is a 10-day Level 1 course that would allow you to achieve a full qualification for showing to future customers or employers.

Sure enough, here at YTA, we offer the 10-day NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Tiling course. Those signing up for this course will undertake four Cskills assessments as they learn all about tiling, with the opportunity to earn the NOCN Cskills Level 1 Certificate in Wall and Floor Tiling.

You’ll learn a serious amount about tiling in just two weeks

This 10-day course effectively consists of our five-day intensive tiling course, followed by our five-day advanced tiling course in the UK.

Training in tiling via this particular course, however, will enable you to be trained and assessed in no fewer than four Cskills units, in relation to health and safety in construction trades, communicating effectively in construction trades, wall tiling and floor tiling.

As for the course content itself, you’ll start on Monday by learning about health and safety, before we proceed to train you in the preparation of surfaces and setting out the tiling of kitchens. You’ll then be taught how to cut the tiles with a tile cutter and a tile wet cutter, set out for the feature, and tile the kitchen. Grouting will also be covered, before the first day of the course is even over!

Over the rest of the first week, you’ll receive our renowned hands-on tuition in such tasks as silicone sealing, tiling around windows, marking and cutting tiles around obstacles such as basin pedestals and toilet waste pipes, and drilling holes in tiles. You’ll also get to grips with how to measure and quote for customers, and the preparation, setting out and tiling of a bathroom floor.

Even with all of that taught in the first week, there will be much more to come in the second week. This will be when you build your skills in such more advanced processes as tiling with diamond inserts, tiling around a window inside and out, tanking, plunge cutting, diamond drilling around waste and supply pipes, and installing under-floor heating before tiling on top of it.

There’s much more to be educated on when you take on this complete tiling course!

Your learning on this 10-day advanced tiling course in the UK won’t stop with all of the above. That’s because every YTA course also includes various other content, including useful ‘tricks of the trade’, advice on how to market yourself as a tiler, information on business start-up, business cards, tax, CSCS cards, and a lot more.

To find out more about this course and to book your place if you decide it is the right one for you, please call 01274682199 today. As we all look for new beginnings in our lives after the COVID-19 pandemic, it could be one of the best decisions you ever make for your employability, earnings and lifestyle.

Is tiling the right choice of career for you?

Even among the trades, tiling is a career option that can be frequently overlooked, given that it entails providing the finishing touches to rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms, albeit also in shops and as part of other major construction projects.

Nonetheless, this ‘overlooked’ nature of the role can also mean that many fail to realise the variety one can encounter in their projects as a tiler, including when a need exists for more specialised work such as the tiling of swimming pools, outdoor tiling in gardens or the restoration of mosaics.

It can also lead many prospective tilers to assume that the job poses less of a challenge than it really does – which, as you might imagine, is something we would like to avoid with those who sign up for our tiling NVQ Level 2 courses here at YTA!

Tiling isn’t easy, or for everyone

You shouldn’t be fooled by the lack of any set requirements to pursue a tiling career – in truth, this is a profession that calls for a wide range of skills, including good practical skills, the ability to follow design plans, and impeccable accuracy and attention to detail.

Creative flair and a good eye for design are also needed to ensure the right aesthetic result, as are maths skills so that the costs and quantities of materials can be calculated.

You will also need to possess good customer service skills, while self-employed tilers must be able to keep paperwork and accounts up to date.

With a tiler’s typical day-to-day duties including everything from marking out areas – known as ‘setting out’ – and cutting tiles into the required shape and size to levelling off surfaces with plaster, sand or cement and working with a range of building materials, the various demands placed on a tiler should not be underestimated.

Tilers typically work between 37 and 45 hours a week, Monday to Friday, and can expect to start on a salary of between £17,000 and £20,000, which can rise to between £30,000 and £38,000 at the highest levels of experience.

If you feel that a tiling career could be the right route for you, our team here at YTA would be happy to talk to you about your requirements from a tiling course. We offer a broad assortment of such courses, from one-day ‘taster’ experiences and NVQ Level 2 courses to intensive, floor and bathroom tiling courses to equip you with the skills you may need in various areas of specialism.

New 5 Star Review of YTA Training and Assessment – Cskills Level 2 NVQ in Site Carpentry EWPA

A superb recent 5 star review from Micheal Manning who has recently completed his NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry. Micheal is an experienced carpenter and joiner that needed to gain the NVQ level 2 in Carpentry so he could gain the blue ‘skilled worker’ CSCS card. The EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) is the quickest route to gaining the NVQ if you have over 5 years experience as a carpenter & joiner. The EWPA route for the NVQ level 2 takes just one full day at our centre and we run the assessments predominantly at weekends.

The assessment went well, the trainers and the assessors were great, they make you feel at ease and can not do enough for you, the centre itself is fully kitted out and very professional, I would recommend this company to anyone, 10 out of 10.

Fantastic review Michael, 10 out of 10. Thank you from the YTA Team.

The EWPA is a NVQ assessment route enabling an experienced worker to achieve their NVQ level 2 in their relevant trade through a practical assessment. By using your skills acquired over the years to complete a task in our NVQ Centre (usually 1 day) which is then assessed. This qualification is the one required to attain the blue skilled worker CSCS card and gain construction site work.

We offer the EWPA route for the below trades:

NVQ Level 2 Certificate in Wall and Floor Tiling
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Site Carpentry
NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Plastering

We also offer NVQ level 2 assessments for more trades through the OSAT (On Site Assessment & Training) and you must have a minimum of 3 years experience for this route of assessment.
