YTA Training and Assessment

14th October 2019 By Graham Binns

Fantastic 5 star multiple course review for YTA

A fantastic 5 star multiple course review for YTA on Google has been received following the completion of several YTA Training courses. Tiling, carpentry & joinery, plumbing, kitchen fitting and plastering courses completed by Anthony Nolan – an Electrician form Wales.

Having looked at various training providers I decided to try YTA, I have an electrical background and my objective was/is to be able to save money by renovating my own property and fit my own kitchen. That may be ambitious as I did not have experience of joinery, tilling, plumbing, or kitchen fitting, (although I had done some ‘plastering’ before) I spoke to Graham on the phone and we discussed a realistic development plan. With YTA, I did the 5 day joinery course, the 5 day plumbing course, a 2 day wall tiling course (specific to kitchen tilling) and a 2 day plastering skimming course ( with a specific practice session to skim over textured surfaces) and I recently completed the 5 day kitchen fitting course. As I am 57 years old and have worked in the construction industry I feel I can offer some advice to people that may be considering learning some construction skills. The instructors at YTA are all master tradesmen with decades of experience within each of their own areas of expertise, Lawrence carpentry, kitchens. Lyndon plumbing, electrical, Dave plastering, tilling. Plus Graham has an extensive plumbing background they were all very easy to get on with, bags of patience and are always willing to impart their knowledge. The courses are well structured to ensure progression and confidence. I believe courses offer excellent value for money and a great investment for people considering changing their careers or widening their income opportunities, with the option to attain valuable recognised qualifications if required. The facilities are excellent, easy to get to with adequate safe free parking, I travelled from N Wales and stayed in affordable (starting at £20 per night) farm house accommodation, within easy walking distance of YTA. During training time coffee, tea, decent biscuits are on tap throughout. For lunch break (45mins) there is a fridge and microwave cutlery and crockery available, plus close by plenty of options such as subway, MacDonalds, sandwich shops, Starbucks, personally I opted for the Fish and Chip shop just around the corner. According to Graham it is highly rated, especially by non local people!!! To finish this review, all I will say is, I was impressed, the other people doing the course whilst I was there were also happy and I believe you would be too. Thank you

Wow! What a fantastic 5 star review Anthony. Thank you. You certainly have worked your way around the training centre on a few different courses and we’ve all enjoyed having you with us. Glad you enjoyed those fish and chips too! Thanks once agin for such a superb review.

YTA Worktop fitting course review

A new 5 star review has been left on google reviews following the completion of the YTA worktop fitting course.

Worktop fitting training was just what I was looking for to refine my skills.

Learn at own pace and enjoyable

The review was left on Google Reviews.

The aim of the 2 day worktop course will be to fit a worktop professionally. You will use a router and worktop jig to create the worktop ‘masons mitre’ fitment into a corner area. You will also cut out for a kitchen sink and fit the kitchen sink.

  • You will use tools such as:
  • Router
  • Worktop Jig
  • Circular saw
  • Jigsaw
  • Square
  • Clamps
  • And other joiners tools to create a professional finish.

You will use professional kitchen fitting tools form jig saws, circular saws and routers. You will be shown every aspect of setting up each tool along with handy tips along the way on how to use the tools for different materials.

Check out our time-lapse worktop router video below.

Great YTA Kitchen Fitting Course Review

Another great review once again following the completion of a YTA Training and Assessment 5 day kitchen fitting course.

Craig MacGarvie – 5 Star Kitchen Fitting Course Review

I recently undertook a kitchen fitting course with Lawrence Booth. The course was excellent and I learned a lot. Lawrence was also a great teacher and talked me through each step. I will be back to do the plumbing course at some point! Thanks again.

Thank you Craig for the fantastic review following the 5 day course. Lawrence is a fantastic teacher who loves to share his extensive knowledge on kitchen fitting, carpentry & joinery. We look forward to seeing you back with us at YTA for the plumbing course Craig.

On the 5 day intensive kitchen fitting course you will learn how to design a kitchen to the room provided and what types of cupboards and units are available to suit a variety of designs to suit a customers specification. Base units will need to be levelled on a and planned to a design along with hanging the wall units and fitting the extractor hood. You will use professional kitchen fitting tools form jig saws, circular saws and routers. You will be shown every aspect of setting up each tool along with handy tips along the way on how to use the tools for different materials.

Excellent review following completion of multiple courses at YTA

Another excellent 5 star review has been left on Google reviews following the completion of multiple courses at YTA. Allan traveled down for several weeks from Scotland whilst completing a variety of construction courses at YTA Training And Assessment in Bradford, West Yorkshire

Allan spent 5 weeks training with YTA in 10 days Plastering, 10 days Wall and Floor Tiling and 5 days Plumbing. He also opted to ‘bolt on’ the Cskills level 1 certificate qualifications in the tiling and plastering courses along with the Ascentis level 1 Award in Plumbing. Following the completion of the courses Allan is now set up and working for himself and he has left us a lovely review.

Please ready below:

OUTSTANDING.. From the first phone call to enquire about the availability of courses till completion of 5 weeks of training. Graham the owner was extremely helpful and knowledgable enabling me to pick the correct courses suitable to my needs..I traveled from Scotland a 4 hour drive and stayed in the b&b recommended by Graham ( model farm) a 5 minute drive from the training centre… £150 for 5 nights with a huge choice of breakfast options that kept you going throughout the day… although there is similar training courses available in Scotland after careful research I am glad to say it was well worth the travelling to YTA for value for money, in-depth hands on training and the fantastic instructors at the various courses.. I completed 2 weeks Tiling 2 weeks plastering and 1 week plumbing all with the level 1 qualification. The instructors… Lyndon, thank you so much for your help and guidance through the plumbing course I really couldn’t of done it without your knowledge patience and basically general down to earth attitude really top top man…also picked up invaluable tips for Tiling from yourself aswell, thank you mate…Dave, again went above and beyond to help, I really enjoyed the plastering and am now out working for myself which I wouldn’t of been able to do without Daves expertise, learned so much in 2 weeks from Dave and have been back in touch with him seeking advice which Dave has duly given . If your looking at doing a plastering course look no further Dave will put you in the right direction…. Lawrence, although I didn’t actually have Lawrence as an instructor he was always there to give advice and guidance another top bloke.. Anyone looking for diy skills or as I was seeking, a complete change in occupation YTA is the place to go without doubt, well worth the travelling… Graham, Dave, Lyndon and Lawerence thank you….

Allan from Scotland YTA review

Thank you for the great review Allan, it was a pleasure having you with us for all those weeks and we are glad you enjoyed your time with us. Remember to keep in touch and let us know how you get on, if you are ever back down in Bradford be sure to pop in for a brew!

NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry EWPA YTA Review

We’ve just had a great review left following the completion of the NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry. The NVQ level 2 was gained through EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment) and takes 1 full day at YTA.

Rob’s review is below:

Hi All. After many years of carpentry I decided to update my c.v with a NVQ. It is at that point I realised my struggle with dyslexcia. I plucked the courage to call the first company I saw online. And what an important call it was. From the very moment I called YTA and explained my condition to the guys on the office. It wasn’t any trouble what so ever to accommodate myself. Firstly Graham. Books you in. Prior to attending Mark calls you. On that call it’s all about the task. Relax! It’s easy. With years of skill you will think it’s a doddle trust me! Mark is the examiner on the day of the test but to be fair you will already know him. This is due to him going threw everything on the calls leading up to the test day. You will then receive a plan in the post which is what you’ll build on the day. In the plan pack will be some questions. Again if in doubt just call The office or Mark. Couldn’t be simpler! On the day. Nerves flowing arrive at the centre nice and early. Booom! Cuppa tea and and choccie bickies. It really wasn’t was I was expecting. Mark on the day was absolutely outstanding. (Thanks Mark) Graham in the office. Mr cool! Was just so erm? Cool an that. All my materials all there waiting for me to drink me tea. Stand by GO. Nice clean workspace was provided all good timber. Remember I am dyslexic. Always someone walking around to ask if I was on any doubt at all. I was even asked did I require a blue overlay to read a little easier. They had also had my plans blown up to a bigger size for me. I really couldn’t say it more clearer. Go see the staff at YTA for all your trades certs. I promise you for my experience they have all been truly amazing. A massive massive thanks to Mark Dale and Graham for all your help throughout every step of my journey. Ps. Booooom cert arrived.

NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry EWPA YTA Review

The above review plus many more can be found at www.reviews.co.uk

Do you wish to undertake NVQ level 2 in Site Carpentry?

Do you have at least 5 years experience in your trade? Then you can spend 1 full day at our NOCN approved NVQ Centre in Yorkshire completing your NVQ level 2 through EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment).

The EWPA is a NVQ assessment route enabling an experienced worker to achieve their NVQ level 2 in their relevant trade through a practical assessment. By using your skills acquired over the years to complete a task in our NVQ Centre (usually 1 day) which is then assessed. This qualification is the one required to attain the blue skilled worker CSCS card and gain construction site work.

The EWPA NVQ assessor will evaluate your skills through professional discussion, witness testimonies and the practical assessment.

Units that make up the Site Carpentry NVQ Level 2

QCF641: Conform to general workplace safety
QCF642: Conform to efficient work practices
QCF643: Move and handle resources

Supported by THREE optional units to choose from:

QCF09: Install first fixing components
QCF10: Install second fixing components
QCF11: Erect structural carcassing components

QCF628: Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

Assessment Criteria for NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Wood Occupations – Site Carpentry: The assessment criteria for the above units for the carpentry NVQ can be found by clicking HERE. You will be assessed through practical assessment, witness testimonies, professional discussion and direct questioning in order to cover all of the assessment criteria

Cskills Awards L2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) – Site Carpentry QUA900

Fast track NVQ for carpenters. Carpentry NVQ level 2 at YTA.

How the process works…

1) You contact us and enquire about EWPA for your trade. We will explain the process and ask you how many years experience you have in your trade area. You must have a minimum of 5 years experience and have experience & knowledge in all the NVQ units (as above) needed to gain the NVQ.

2) We will pass your details on to our NVQ carpentry assessor who will give you a call and complete what we call a ‘skills scan’. This is a chat amongst the two of you where he will want to know what type of work or projects you have been completing and for how long, he will want to know if you have experience and knowledge of the above NVQ units. He will explain that to achieve the NVQ in Carpentry you need to achieve all NVQ parts.

The NVQ parts…

NVQ Part 1) Witness testimonies. These are pre-printed in the carpentry NVQ pack and are sent out to you 2 weeks before your assessment date at our NVQ Centre in Bradford. You must get them signed by a trade related co-worker who has seen you complete this work in the last 3 years.

NVQ Part 2) Practical assessment. This is where you come to YTA and complete a practical assessment pre-set by the CITB. The drawing plan with all specifications and measurements is sent out to you 2 weeks before this practical assessment. You must complete the assessment to spec and within the allocated time. You must bring you own tools for the assessment. Awaiting for you will be the materials to complete the task.

NVQ Part 3) Professional discussion. This is also completed at YTA on the same day as your practical assessment. The best way to describe this is like a structured discussion around the NVQ carpentry units. It is not a questions and answers session but more of a talking through jobs or projects you have completed and the assessor may ask you to elaborate on certain parts so you are effectively talking your way through the NVQ units as talking evidence. Thus turning your experience as a carpenter onto the NVQ.

NVQ Part 4) Direct Questioning. Some assessment criteria within the carpentry nvq will ask you to ‘state’ or ‘describe’. These will be covered during the professional discussion or by direct questioning. The assessment criteria can be found below the carpentry nvq units listed above.

Time to book it and get on with it…

If you are happy to proceed and you feel confident and our NVQ assessor also feels confident in your ability and experience to achieve the NVQ we can go ahead with booking the carpentry NVQ. We require a deposit of £450. We then send you the documentation as detailed above and we will set your carpentry NVQ assessment date.

When you arrive for the NVQ assessment you will bring with you your signed witness testimonies and your tools. This is when you will pay the remaining balance of £450. You will then be inducted into the NVQ. During this day you will complete the practical assessment and professional discussion. Total price £900.

At the end of the day you will be told by the assessor if you have achieved or not achieved. If you have achieved you will be sent your certificate within 14 days (sometimes can be 7 days). You can now apply for your blue skilled worker CSCS card and get on site!

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like more information.

If you would like to book a course or look around the centre we have an open door policy and you can visit YTA Training anytime without an appointment between 8:30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.
