YTA Training and Assessment

2nd March 2020 By Graham Binns

”Fantastic training facility!” New YTA review

Thank you for such a great 5 star plumbing and bathroom tiling course review Jed!

Fantastic training facility! Having recently completed two courses with YTA (plumbing with Graham and three days bathroom tiling with Dave) I honestly can not recommend them enough. The group sizes are small, so you’re guaranteed to get a little bit of one-on-one help if you need it – and the instructors all know their stuff. There’s no time “wasted” spending day after day going through PowerPoint slides and doing paperwork, you’re straight into the practical stuff learning the basics before being shown how to put this to use in a “real” situation. They introduce you to tools, methods and equipment that your chosen course will see on a regular basis and explain it in a way that makes sense. I feel I’ve learned loads while I was there, and now I’m looking forward to putting it all into practice!

My tutor Lawrence was great at explaining what we needed to do and demonstrating the technique used to complete the task. I would definitely recommend the YTA training centre if you are looking to start something new in the industry or further your skills. A big thank you to the team.

Excellent Multiple Courses YTA Review.

We have received an excellent multiple courses YTA review from an ex student after completing several courses. Nigel completed Tiling, Carpentry, Plumbing, Plastering, Bricklaying and Kitchen Fitting courses at YTA over several weeks and has since completed various projects including installing 3 bathrooms whilst renovating his properties as a landlord and is now completing his second kitchen installation. You can read his review of YTA and our tutors below:

Nigel Hammond YTA review

I attended a suite of YTA courses including Tiling, Carpentry, Plumbing, Plastering, Bricklaying and Kitchen Fitting. I was a novice, working in IT, with little more experience than the odd DIY job. I have used all the training as a landlord, renovating a few properties. I’ve installed 3 bathrooms (includes all appliances , tiling, and flooring), and I’m currently installing my 2nd kitchen (again involving plenty of plumbing, tiling, woodwork etc). As well as numerous other DIY tasks, around the place. I understand this would be a small fortune to pay tradespeople to do. I’ve done it myself, thanks to skills and confidence developed as a result of attending YTA courses, instructed by the excellent tutors Lorry, Dave, and Graham. I also gained a great deal of knowledge surrounded by industry trades people, also cross-training across disciplines. A very helpful perspective. I’ve plenty to learn in maintaining properties, but I think its helpful to get a good grounding in what is a multi-discipline/skill set of tasks. Many thanks to tutors and course colleagues.I recommend to anyone who wants to have a go and do a good job, and some might say, professional.

Thank you Nigel for an excellent 5 star multiple courses YTA review. It’s always lovely to see students put their training and skills to good use following the courses.

Could an NVQ Level 2 carpentry diploma be yours through the EWPA route?

Could an NVQ Level 2 carpentry diploma be yours through the EWPA route?

We may be home to a wide range of carpentry and joinery courses here at YTA – encompassing both five-day and 10-day options – but you don’t necessarily need to undertake any of these to significantly upgrade your qualifications.

That’s because, if you have already been a carpenter for five or more years, you could obtain a Cskills Awards NVQ Level 2 Carpentry Diploma in Wood Occupations (Construction) within the space of a day, when you pursue our fast-track assessment route. You can be up and running with site work in next to no time.

Requiring approximately one day of your time – or possibly two days – at our NOCN Cskills-approved centre in Yorkshire, our Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) option will allow you to demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed to achieve an NVQ Level 2. Your skills will be evaluated on the basis of professional discussion, witness testimonies and the practical assessment.

Indeed, there are three mandatory units that constitute this Site Carpentry NVQ Level 2, relating to the essential matters of general workplace safety, efficient work practices and the moving and handling of resources.

Carpentry NVQ level 2 assessment back
Carpentry NVQ level 2 assessment back
Carpentry NVQ level 2 assessment front
Carpentry NVQ level 2 assessment front

In addition to completing these units, you will be able to further support your bid for the NVQ Level 2 qualification by undertaking three optional units. With such subjects as the installation of first fixing components, the installation of second fixing components and the maintenance of non-structural carpentry work featuring in these units, they could be integral to your efforts to pass the EWPA route with YTA.

Complete all of the above to satisfaction, and you will be told at the end of the day that you have achieved the certificate, which will then be sent to you within 14 days, or perhaps even seven days. This, in turn, will enable you to apply for blue skilled worker CSCS card, so that you can get on site.

Enquire now about the joinery courses that best suit your needs as we touched on above, various carpentry and joinery courses are available here at YTA to suit different levels of skills, experience and ambition.

So, why not talk to us now to establish which of these paths represents the step you should take next in your career? Call the YTA team now on 01274 682199, and we’ll be able to clarify any uncertainties that you may have, as well as – if you are ready – take your booking.
