I did the 2 week carpentry course in February 20. The course was great, very well led by Lawrie who is very capable in all aspects of carpentry and general construction. Tools and materials provided were all top -drawer and the assignment based learning was ideal for my needs. Carpentry NVQ still running

Our site carpentry EWPA option could give you a Level 2 qualification in next to no time

There are certain things that anyone who wishes to become a professional carpenter needs to possess; a sound knowledge of building and construction, considerable attention to detail, a good ability to work well with others, the ability to use, repair and maintain tools and machinery…One more thing that you will definitely require if you are to gain site work as a skilled worker, though, is the blue skilled worker CSCS card. And if you are to obtain that, you’ll need to have the right qualification under your belt. That qualification is an NVQ Level 2 in carpentry, and while various construction training providers up and down the UK give you the opportunity to earn this qualification, there are few that make it as pleasurable as we do here at YTA!

 

The renowned fast-track route for joiners with previous experience

‘EWPA’ is short for ‘Experienced Worker Practical Assessment’. The purpose of this particular NVQ route is to enable someone whois already experienced in their chosen trade to achieve a Level 2 qualification much more quickly than would be the case if they were completely ‘starting afresh’ with their training.

In keeping with our reputation as one of the UK’s premier construction training providers, YTA offers EWPA fast-track options to those wishing to earn qualifications in not only site carpentry, but also wall and floor tiling, bricklaying and plastering. Focusing specifically on the site carpentry EWPA route, though, as long as you have five or more years’ joinery experience and both you and our NVQ assessor are confident about your chances of passing, you will be entitled to book a one or two-day assessment with us. This time you spend at our training centre will allow us to evaluate your skills through a combination of professional discussion, witness testimonies and the practical assessment.

If you are happy to arrive at our premises for 7:30am, we will be able to complete the entire NVQ carpentry assessment for you in one day. When the day concludes, the assessor will inform you whether or not you have achieved, and if you have, your certificate will be sent to you within 14 days.

 

How do we assess during COVID-19 and keep social distancing

We have a very large assessment centre (6500 sq foot) that is currently closed for our usual 5 & 10 days training courses but we are still assessing for NVQ level 2 qualifications through EWPA (Experienced Worker Practical Assessments) at the weekends. The EWPA requires the candidate to work on their own in a dedicated assessment area for an allocated amount of time to complete the practical assessment (between 6 and 9 hours depending on which trade). We can easily distance a maximum of 3 assessment areas within the centre 6m apart from each other. The assessor will assess at distance and when required at the end of the assessment, ask you to stand to one side so he can measure and mark your practical assessment.  So the carpentry NVQ level 2 is still running but with no more than 3 candidates per time in the building.

What if you need to be earning a wage again even before you’ve completed our carpentry EWPA route? Well, that’s not too much of a drama, either – you simply need to first secure your place and pay your deposit, so that we can get you registered. This will enable you to apply for and gain a temporary card lasting for a maximum of six months until you have completed the EWPA.

We are open for business

We are open for business and our courses are still running every week. Our training centre is a large 6500 sq foot, high ceiling well ventilated area with individual training bays AND tools per person. We have latex gloves and masks to wear if required along with hand-wash and cleaning wipes and we only teach small class numbers on average 5 per class.

All hands-on practical training out in the centre learning. Here’s a selection of photos taken this week and last week from the plumbing, tiling, carpentry and plastering courses.

If on the Government advice, businesses like ours are asked to close, we can re-schedule courses for a later date. With a little help and goodwill we will all get through this, we’ll support you, we ask you support us.

I have just completed my two weeks Level 1 in carpentry and joinery. I really enjoyed my training over the two weeks, learning so many new skills in a friendly environment. Excellent Multiple Courses YTA Review.

We have received an excellent multiple courses YTA review from an ex student after completing several courses. I attended a suite of YTA courses including Tiling, Carpentry, Plumbing, Plastering, Bricklaying and Kitchen Fitting. I was a novice, working in IT, with little more experience than the odd DIY job. I have used all the training as a landlord, renovating a few properties. I’ve installed 3 bathrooms (includes all appliances , tiling, and flooring), and I’m currently installing my 2nd kitchen (again involving plenty of plumbing, tiling, woodwork etc). As well as numerous other DIY tasks, around the place. I understand this would be a small fortune to pay tradespeople to do. I’ve done it myself, thanks to skills and confidence developed as a result of attending YTA courses, instructed by the excellent tutors Lorry, Dave, and Graham. I also gained a great deal of knowledge surrounded by industry trades people, also cross-training across disciplines. A very helpful perspective. I’ve plenty to learn in maintaining properties, but I think its helpful to get a good grounding in what is a multi-discipline/skill set of tasks. Many thanks to tutors and course colleagues.I recommend to anyone who wants to have a go and do a good job, and some might say, professional.
